I LOVE the XB12s and I am thinking of getting one, BUT I was trying to wait to see if there are any new motors or motor developments/updates in the near future for the XB12s engine. I just wish that the thing revved a little more from the factory (I know, you can spend some aftermarket $$ to upgrade the engine). I want an engine that is not spanked by a modern 600cc four! I love the handling and everything else, the motor is just a little 'dated' feeling compared to modern bikes like the RC51, Honda Superhawk VTR1000, SV1000, TL1000, Ducatis, etc. Please Eric, do something for the engine on your already awesome XB models, weather it be a totally new engine or tweaks to the current one. HELP. -Todd

Well, there was a RUMOR (although it could have been pure speculation on someone's part) before the 06 models were released that there would eventually be a street version of the engine the factory Formula Xtreme race teams are running. 1350cc with a shorter stroke than the present 1200. The latest versions also runs a dual throat throttlebody.

It seems logical that when the factory upgrades the engine, this might be the way that they go. We'll all have to wait another ~8 months and see if anything comes out.

Of course, you could by an XB12 now and start tweaking. Al Lighton at American Sport Bike can get you to ~100 RWHP with no internal engine mods. With internal mods, who knows what's achievable?

There are always rumors.
You just have to learn who to listen to.

Svttodd,

I can feel your pain. I just couldn't wait any longer myself and defected to Italy...

I also know of at least one buyer who is waiting on the fence for a Firebolt long with short stroke engine. Hope it happens, then I may come back to Buell again.

If one thing is clear about Buell - they keep moving forward. A new motor is a huge capital investment and Buell is a small company. However, with Harley's financial backing I have to believe even better things lie ahead, including a more modern motor.

I was about to 'defect to Italy' and buy a Ducati S4R Monster, then I heard about the new 130+ HP S4RS that will be coming out soon, so I thought that I would wait a little while and see what else is coming down the pipeline from Buell, Ducati, and the others. I bought a cheap wrecked VTR1000 that I am rebuilding into a street fighter style naked bike to hold me over in the meantime (after selling my '03 R1). The initial high cost is what turns me away from Ducati (the maintenance myths and costs do not scare me as much). The simplicity of the Buell is what is so attractive, yet at the same time it is what makes it kind of a 'dinosaur' (engine wise). The handling is awesome, the bike has many high tech goodies, and the looks are definitely there, BUT the dang engine just needs a little more rev and ooomph from the factory! I think I will try to enjoy my rebuilt street fighter for as long as possible until Buell juices up the XB's a little, or until I break down and sell my right arm and first born for the Ducati. Keep me updated on any new Buell developments and help me save my right arm and first born. -Todd

There are two short stroke motors that will rev to 8K+, they are the Blast and XB9. You can take the XB9 crank and its 3.125 stroke and install a Rev Perf Big Bore Kit and Heads, Red Shift cams and get 1197-cc, On the Blast you can start at 515 and go to 597 using the short stroke and a new head. It's the XB 12 crank that's limited due to piston speed. ... Our AFM F4 XB Race Bike makes 115 RWHP at 1210-cc + 1 mm and spins to 8200 with no engine issues all season. ... So lets keep an eye out for what shows up at Dayton, I think it's going to be fun to watch. ... Terry

I hate to be skeptical but AMA classes do not make any sense, Im just glad I remember classic Daytona from the early 80's up to a few years ago. Formula Extreme doesnt make sense to me, The only Formula is Honda+Unltd $$$=They Win and there is nothing extreme about 600's. Superstock was the only class worth watching, but now its all Pro riders.

Bring Back Pro-Thunder or BOTT.

Rumors of big badass bellering Buells turning laps for 200 miles... Saturday March 11th 2006, Daytona Beach International Speedway... Be there for a chance to see history in the making? American motorcycles return to racing the Daytona 200?

I guess the Formula X-treme will be the headline at Daytona again this year. I wish they would bring back Superbikes to Daytona.

Let's start a Daytona roll call??? Maybe a new thread?

I'm going to pit for Scott Jensen in AMA SBK - don't know if I'll be there the week before. Mebbe if Jeff Ecklund is there for Bartels... gotta think about that. We're renting a house for the time there.

The Superbikes will be there, just like last year, but for a sprint race.

Blame the Speedway, not the AMA, for the 200 being a Formula Extreme Race. Had the AMA not switched classes for the 200 they would have given the race for FUSA/CCS to run with their 600 Superbike class.

The Speedway was concerned with the tire safety issues that the Superbikes were having at the speedway, thus the new track layout and the smaller/lighter/less powerful bikes being raced in the 200.

This year both the Honda and Yamaha Factory teams will race the 200.

I like the FX class, the potential is there, I just wish the AMA would break some balls and force the Factories to race only in Superbike and FX, and leave supersport/superstock to the privateers.

I second that Glitch.... IMO F/X should be what eva you can come up with,ie "Turbo charged Hayubusa engine in a 600 frame." Now that would be extreme. The FX bikes are slower then the Supersport 600's... I have read all the hub bub about Daytona not being safe and thats the reason for the changes. After seeing tracks in Europe I still scratch my head why we do not have Bigger, Safer tracks here in the USA. I am going to race Daytona but with CCS, I think the AMA is missing a grassroots support race with practicle bikes. SuperStock is supposed to be that class, 1 liter bikes and Pro riders doesnt seem like a class for the up & coming.... It falls into all the other categories, if you can take a top 10 as a privateer your doing real well, while the top 5 factory teams lap the field.

Now to CMA I am siked for Buell and will watch or be at the race, I know Rich at Racing Motorcycles builds some wild engines/bikes( Estok fighting to hold the front wheel down THE WHOLE Straightaway at Loudon) I own a Buell, I race a Buell and it would be the greatest day in Motorcycling History if a Buell won the Daytona 200 (to me).... Hell Id volunteer to ride the damn thing!!!!

Motorcycle racing fans. Europe has us 10 to 1. Fans fuel racing, and as long as NASCAR rules the fan base as far as racing, motorcycle racing and tracks will stay the way they are. The sport is growing though. There was a German guy at a Jennings GP track day a few weekends ago, he said our motorcycle racing was about ten years behind what he saw "back home." He also said that we (the southeastern U.S.) were closing in fast.

Hopefully Buell's new contingency covering more races, and racers, Buell racing will grow. I'm looking forward to finding out if any Buellers will be racing WERA. WERA is big down this way, lots of local racers in the area.
