Hey Liquorwhere!

I am in Naples, and just noticed your outstanding post on this subject. I have been to your dealership once before, and noticed that you guys seem to support Buell. I will definately stop by and say hello next time I am up your way!

Buellryder246,
I appreciate you coming to our dealership, my name is Dale and my sales manager is Derek and we both ride Buell XB12R Firebolts. We are constantly trying to press the brand and enlighten people to the up side of the Buell and have been successful as we are ranked number 3 in our entire region while having a small market to work in. We love the Buell at our dealership and make it a priority to sell as many as we can, and we welcome anyone on any bike to stop by and chat about the sport. If it has two wheels and an engine, chances are I want to look at it or ride it once. Also every Saturday is customer appreciation, so free hot dogs and hamburgers and soda's from 11-2. Hope to see you there.
Dale

Not trying to hijack the thread but I was curious what an easy-pull clutch is? A clutch that pulls easier? Hmmm, hate to assume.

Speaking of awesome dealerships I purchased my bike from Cycle Connection in Joplin, MO. I thought the deal was pretty fair and the sales staff was great. I had to truck the 'bolt back home and wanted to take a quick tour on it before we loaded it up. My salesman, Chris Chiodo, check that spelling, took me on a tour around town to get a feel for the bolt. He led on his personal 9R. Although I was already sold on the bike, it was pretty awesome to see a guy I was buying from riding essentially the same bike I was getting. That is a big selling point for me. Oh yeah, when I checked the mail today I had a post card inviting me to a get to together dinner thing the dealership was putting on.

Jak,
It is a new clutch introduced this year that is 33% easier than the old ones. Basically, it pulls close to a hydraulic clutch.

How much would that run? Is it the same clutch feel that is on the '06 12Ss? I test road that before I bought my '05 12R and I can't remember feeling a difference between the two.

the clutch is a Harley product, but it comes standard on the sportsters, so they will match up and actually they are not too expensive.

Perhaps we should have a form letter that users here could download and mail to dealerships like this.

Dear [service manager name],

I recently read of your crap service you offered a Buell customer. I just wanted you to know I will never buy anything from you and advise anyone who I come in contact with for the rest of my life the same advice. Please grab your ears and yell POP! Now that you have pulled your head out of your butt I hope you can start acting like a human sometime in the near future.

Sincerely,
[your name here]

Just wait... Now that the EPA has added new rules it will limit the amount of modification work a dealership can do on a bike. Hence, less service work for them. Do you think that will help the customer even more in a situation like this, or make the dealership even more greedy???

It never ceases to amaze me, the lengths a dealer will go to, inorder to alenate and pi$$ off customers and potential customers.

Bruce Rossmeyer, a long-time Ft. Lauderdale resident, was retired from the automobile business when he purchased his first Harley-Davidson dealership here in 1993. Bruce had once owned Rossmeyer Dodge in Daytona and Toyotaland in Longwood and was looking for some fun in his retirement.
The greatest challenge facing Bruce when awarded the franchise in December 1993 was to have the dealership built and open for business in time for the March 1994 Daytona Beach Bike Week. That challenge was met. With his intensive hands-on style and enthusiastic supervision of the construction and stocking of the dealership, Daytona Harley-Davidson opened ahead of schedule - just 89 days from the time the first shovel hit the dirt! With 20,000 sq. ft. for the sale and servicing of Harley-Davidson products and unique merchandising concepts, Ft. Lauderdale Harley-Davidson was considered a state of the art facility that has now become the standard for Harley-Davidson franchises throughout the U.S. Ft. Lauderdale Harley-Davidson has been No. 1 in parts and accessories purchases' in the U.S. since its inception. Even with these achievements, Bruce continues to strive for innovative ways to market Harley-Davidson products.

The Ft. Lauderdale store offers a full line of used and never before seen custom-built motorcycles. You can also upgrade your Buell with a 06 Buell clutch spring to get the easier pull.
list price is 25.70
Badweb price is 23.13

You mean that the 06 spring works just fine in an '05 ? And it only costs $23.13 to badwebbers?

Wow, that sounds like it's worth looking into!

Sorry to hear about crappy service from Pompano-HD. Seems there is a real shortage of good dealers (though there are some - thanks guys!).

Maybe "Erik *&*% Buell" will find his way down to Pompano to introduce himself to Mr. loser employee and kick some tail.

MikeJ: What was the point of posting that? You making jokes about the "Our service department's courteous and expedient repair time will definitely fulfill your expectations in handling your investment."? : )

I bought my easy-pull clutch from my local HD shop. It's an aftermarket part but I was advised by one of the service techs to not go with the 06 clutch spring. Basically, he said it's a weaker spring and therefore, theoretically, could prematurely fail. He recommended going with the ball and ramp mechanism. Beats me if he is correct but I thought I'd pass that along.

Perry,

You got Erik's middle name wrong, so fix it or I will. Erik Buell is not to blame here, although I am sure that Buell wants to know about problem dealers.

Hey, am I dumb! I've been riding every day, using up my "investment", no wonder most of the Harley riders come out once or twice a month (weather permitting), I thought I bought a motorcycle, no one told me it was an investment. Now I get it.

If you swap clutch springs you should also change over to the Formula + trans/primary fluid.

Why would they make a part for the new bikes that would fail sooner?
Sounds like they had some easy pulls to get rid of.
Not that it is a bad option, they do work well.

Jon,
I think Perry was quoting what the original poster's quote was. About what the service tech said. I don't think he meant any disrespect.

jon; as Raty just said, the quote was from an earlier post by Aldaytona, the quote went like this
"Stopped into HD of Pompano earlier this year to get a TPS reset, found out they fired the service manager the day before (who was going to personally do the job) and saw 2 morons (employees who thought they were techs) jacking a tube frame bike up by the muffler, and when I mentioned this to the new but certainly not improved service manager one of the morons must have overheard the conversation shouts out to me "who do you think you are, Erik *#%@* Buell?" On the way out I replied that although I wasn't Erik, I did know how to read a *#%@* service manual.
Good luck, you're gonna need it."
behavior like this, by dealership personell isso far out of line, that it must be exposed broadcast, and the mothership should be informed.
I wasn't present, so cannot know the entire context, but still think it bears repeating. THINK THEY'LL GET THE MESSAGE? hope the factory is listening. regards, dean h ravin

We know Pompano Harley is listening because they told my brother to pick his bike up. After getting wind of this thread, they won't fix the bike. He didn't even have anything to do with this post. Apparently with Pompano Harley, somebody only needs to tell the truth about a situation, not even their own situation, to be refused service by this dealer. I can't believe they're taking this out on him and he didn't even know about the post until after I put it up. Not that he wants to have anything to do with one of the worst Harley dealerships in the country. Didn't somebody say they were one of the top selling Buell dealerships in the country a while back? No idea how that happened. Maybe they should focus a little more on service and not sales.

NOTE ON CLUTCH: If you change to the softer clutch spring, you need to change transmission/primary oil too, or it will slip.

No, it was the Ft. Lauderdale Buell Shop on US1 just south of 17st causeway (closed now) Number 2 in the nation in total Buell sales in 2003. Same owner, NOT the same people, the Buell shop was run by Buell owners, motorcycle enthusiasts who rode to work every day, none of those people are at the other stores. Too bad.

Cochise,

You need to run the new 2006 H-D transmission oil, I think it is called SportTrans(?). It is some crazy special mix that lubricates metal parts well, but gives great clutch plate friction. At least that's what i was told by a very good source.
