Have you guys had a chance to check out the guts of the XB race muffler?
Kind of interesting - the rear half is completely empty. The inlet must have a plate or something in it to force the exhaust through the baffle material in the front of the muffler. If I had a working scanner, I'd post some images.

The Buell XB9R race muffler, aka "The Fetal Pig"!

I love it! LOL!! :roflol:

That's even better than "Ham Can" or "Bread Box"!

XB race muffler observations: straight thru type. The smallest restriction is the diameter of the twin outlet pipes.

Force Motor Products is starting development on there own Race Kit after Labor Day holiday, its going to be cool and in two versions. Our Dealership bolted on a Buell Race Kit on our track day/demo XB9R and only picked up 5 rear wheel horsepower, we will dyno it after a 100 miles or so to see what the ECM learned.

Man, and people think the Buell one is ugly? Holy cow that Belgian one screams to be covered up.

Definately decided against the Buell race muffler. Was at BattleTrax today and heard one in person. Not at all impressive next to the tube frames with Vance & Hines and not crazy about the way it looked either. (ie fetal pig)
I'm not necessarily after more power, just more sound. Does anyone know the internal layout of the stock muffler? Would it possible to get rid of some of the internals to make it more of a straight thru? Just a though

Roy, I think you are correct in your opinion of the sound of the "fetal pig". I heard one a few weeks ago & was not impressed at all. I know 1 or 2 individuals have posted that the sound is great & is louder than their tube framers. They have gotta be kidding themselves.

Charley,

I'm well aware of just how much the chin spoiler on a Firebolt covers up. I still think it's butt ugly, even giving that the forward mounting bracketry will be covered. But then again I was never much for shiny things like chrome and polished aluminum.

Diese Abgasanlage auf dem firebolt ist ehrfürchtig!
(OK, that is German and not Dutch)
Is that dual can undertail system completely custom fabricated or adapted from another motorcycle application ?

That's really cool looking. Would make mounting a belly pan real easy and give better ground clearance. I'd like to know what the exhaust did to the power. Does it have the race ecm too?

Looks like somebody fabricated some custom pipes and bolted Ducati cans to them. Very nice!!

While it looks sharp (I did a similar "up-pipe" install on my K12 with Photoshop) isn't Erik rolling in his grave (wait....I'm not dead yet!!!)

I recall he thought the WORST place for exhaust system weight was behind the rear axle.

coughphotoshopcough

If not, it is lame. Needs it's own 2 into2 headers a la Duc 999. I'm just not a big fan of adding 20 pound of pipe just for looks. It contradicts the whole Buell concept. Harley decora-chrome types love that kind of stuff though.

Does it have a flex joint in the pipe?

If not, it won't last long.

That is the POOREST excuse for photoshop I've EVER seen. The pipes "magically" go from chrome to gray. They also get "two dimensional" right after the heel guards. Last, but not least, they come out of the original muffler. I'd have to give Anony-lame a "Two Thumbs Down" on the photoshop.

Now the concept, on the other hand, I'd give it "Two Thumbs Up". Run the pipes up each side of the engine. I've always like the Ducati/Aprilia/Triumph bikes with underseat exhaust.

Just heard back from Staintune exhaust. They also have a muffler in progress for the Bolt. Has anyone ever heard a Staintune on a Buell? Impressions? So that makes D&D, Two Brothers, Vance & Hines, and Staintune that I know are working on mufflers for the XB. Starting to look like maybe it will be an over the winter or spring project.

The Staintune has a nice deep rumble at idle, somewhat less "blatty" than the Vance & Hines. Revs out really nicely making nice noise. Seemed like a cool pipe. A friend of mine ran the Staintune for a while when he was waiting for his Force pipe.

I'm eating crow and boy does it taste like sh!t:)

I checked out the Dutch site. It looks real. I still don't understand why they'd run the pipes all the way to the front, down under the bike & back up to the tail section. Seems like more work than was necessary.

Okay, back to my crow (yum, yum)
