hey Don, when i saw you at Laguna you were showing off your new Firebolt like a proud new papa (only thing missing was a handful of fine Cuban cigars!)

so, are you thinking of ADDING the Lightning to your fleet, or REPLACING the Firebolt?

and dammit people, you better start posting some pix!

Ferris, I am trying to decide what I going to do.
I love my Firebolt and I just got the suspension dail in. I am having a lot of fun on my Firebolt. But the Lighting is beautiful.

Just saw a yellow one at Camden County HD in South Jersey, it looks AWESOME. Much better in person. BTW, they had three V-Rods, one XB9R and the XB9S. This has been typical for me. I don't think I've seen any showrooms with more XB's than V-Rods for the past 6 months around here.

XB9S -- much better in-person. Upright & nice seating position.

Elvis, at milwaukee Harley they have 1 V-rod on the floor, the new XB9S & 4 or 5 Firebolts. Around here the V-rod has been very popular but the lil bolts just sit & sit. I hit most of the dealers around here usually once a week & its the same thing at all of em.

It looks good. If it had a little dash of chrome somewhere near the foot pegs it would be perfect.

I sat on a 9s today at Flint River HD in Albany GA. Looks are HOT and sits more comfortable than my X1 BUT I was there to have my tps reset for the race kit I installed, and now I wouldn't swap what I 've got. Besides' I think that mudflap-cupholder looking thing on the back has got to be somebodies joke.

...I think that mudflap-cupholder looking thing on the back has got to be somebodies joke

a joke forced upon us by the Feds, FPony, as they require the license plate to reside in a certain place relative to the motorcycle.

easily fixed, one would imagine, either via homegrown means, or by any number of aftermarket solutions that are certain to crop up.

Steve(2), EXCELLENT PIX!!! now then if you could post a couple of a BLACK Lightning, with ME on it, with the front-end pointed skyward (and a little crossed-up, just for effect) and a maniacal grin evident thru the face-port of my Arai..............

...............well, a guy can wish, right? ;)

Those new Lightnings make my mouth water.
Now, if someone could clarify something for me, someone posted thy were waiting for the XB12S and someone else replied, so you're going to wait another month, were they talking about a 12S or is my medication having fun with me again? If they make a 1200 I might be getting a divorce!

Somebody wanted a picture of Steve on a Lightning?

steve

The headlight arrangement is interesting:

lowbeam
highbeam

The only way to have both on at the same time is to have it in low beam and push the "flash to pass" button. I wonder how long it will take for owners to shortcut that switch......

Would it be easy to convert a firebolt into a lighting?

Ramon:

It would require a new wiring harness (or at least a modified one). All the electronics are under the seat on Lightning & behind the front fairing on the 'Bolt. I'm more interested in the photo shop one I saw under another thread: Yellow Lightning w/ 'Bolt rear subframe/seating! I guess that would be an easier conversion, as you'd just need to find room to fix all the stuff that's hidden under the Lighning's seat, under the 'Bolt's body/seat.

Its kinda cool . The passenger pegs would be the first to go, followed by the license plate holder & exhaust. It's no two up bike, no use pretending it is.

With a polish here and a bob or tuck there, the 9S could be a mean little around-town blaster a la the original Lightning. If my S1W was squashed today, would I replace it with another S1W or get one of these? Hmmm...would probably have to consider it with a budget thrown in for a larger top end...and at that price, a couple non-buell bikes start to look attractive.

But I could own one of these, even stock...

Justin,
The rumor mill is flooded currently with much information and disinformation, hard to say let alone decipher anything. In the mean time I keep seeing skirted bikes, or else the city has come up with a new two-wheel street sweeper.

"I wonder how long it will take for owners to shortcut that switch......"

Or to find a set of dual-filament bulbs to slip inside.

"It's no two up bike, no use pretending it is. "

I saw a black one on Saturday waiting for the new owner to come pick it up. Probably won't even see the showroom floor. I kind of agree, don't look like a two-up bike. Looking at the seat I envisioned a little bubble-pod glovebox thing to replace the passenger pad area sort of like one of the F'bolt's options. Me thinks one should watch the accessory pages on buell.com, or wait for the printed acc. catalog to come out.

I'm thinking a sort of off black charcoalish color to go with the color of the lisc. plate apendage.

I still think something in a 55" wheelbase would be nice though.

And I kept watching the peripheral for something interesting at the SlimeyCrudRun on Sunday, but only saw one Sasquatch watering the trees. Guess I didn't get up early enough in the morning. Oh well, what will be will be, we'll just have to wait and see.

DHD got a yellow one on sat. It had a 3inch scrape in the frame out of the box.. I also noticed the right side reflector on the fork was gone. Other than that I liked it. the rear "urinal" has to go.
I want to sell my '93 900RR and use it for a down payment (on a black one).. I mean, I have to have some pics to put on the xb9s.com site.. 8o)

There's a black XB9S that just came in at Stone's HD/Buell in Marion, IN. 765-664-1331, ask for Jimbo. I looked it over... just can't seem to get there from here. Maybe when it's a XB12R.

The first 'bolt that arrived for me at Phil Peterson's had a huge gouge in the frame, possibly from a wayward forklift.

I imagine they're rushing a bit to get them out, but they really do need to ensure the bikes are properly crated.

Same goes for the race kits (sigh). Dave, any word on my replacement?

Fasteddie,
It's going to be shipped today. Sorry for the delay, when we ordered the replacement for you they were available. Then(cause I think a lot of them were like your's) they went to a back order status. I'm stealing the one that was to go on the new XB9S and sending it to you today! I'll put your bent one on for now and replace it when they send us the one we ordered for you.

Thanks, Dave.

I'll probably be headed back up to N GA right after Biketoberfest in Daytona. At that point I'll probably install the race kit and then trailer the bike to a dealer for:

1) the TPS re-set
2) front rotor replacement (tic-tic-tic)
3) sidestand recall
4) turn signal investigation

Thanks for the help. Maybe see if you can get HD/Buell to step up their quality control re: packaging!

BTW, I think it was Thunder Creek in Chattanooga that came recommended. Anyone have any thumbs ups/thumbs downs on them before I call?
