OK, all. I'm seriously considering the race kit. I don't like the way harley's with straight pipes or mildly baffled pipes sound. Keeping this in mind, Would I like the race kit? Just how loud is it? Also, does it make a big difference in the performance? |

Your better off with an aftermarket pipe like the Drummer. The race kit pipe has about the same sound level as the Drummer and its not nearly as loud as dragpipes, not even close. My problem with the race pipe is its relatively bad performance in the lower regions, which is precisely where I spend my time on the street. |

And I believe this should have been posted in the KV

I have the exact same bike as you do, and one of the first things I did was to install the race kit. The thing I like about it are that is sounds loud enough to really let you know what the motor is doing, but not so loud that my neighbors get annoyed. I live in the middle of a small village. The other thing is that the system works very well right from the git go, as all the parts were designed for each other and the bike. Don't forget that you need to have a dealer reset your TPS, after installing the ECM. The install takes about an hour or two the first time you do it. I almost forgot to remove the snorkle when I did mine. |

Complete race kit is 557.95 Muffler, ecm and filter. The Drummer is also a great choice D+D, I like them but they are louder, pipe is 536.36 With either of these you should still do the ECM and filter so they add up to more money. ECM is 188.95 Filter is 58.45 for the Buell filter 51.25 for a K+N Lots of choices. |

I have the race kit on my 9SX and I love it. Good power and nice sound! It sound just right for me. Like Gentleman_jon wrote, it's loud enough to hear the engine and the music of the twin but not too loud to disturb all the neighbors when I leave to work at 5h30 in the morning. At first I bought only the exhaust and add the ECM and filter a couple of months later. Go for the complete kit, your bike will have more power, have a nice sound and run well. |

I have the race kit on my 9R and I love it. I honestly don't think that there is a better bang-for-your-buck mod out there. $557.95 through Dave (who is great to work with, I might add) and you get a pipe, ECM and filter. You will notice performance gains with this kit. Bottom Line = You just can't beat it for the price. |

Race kit, it's been on my 9R since 2002. I have dynoed it several times, 81-83hp at the wheel. RUNS GREAT! I have over 11,000 miles on it and highly recommend it. Best bang(boom) for the buck in my opinion. |

I went to a demo ride today. I tried a stock XB9SX..... what a difference the race kit make!!! I tried the 2006 9SX to see the difference with my 2005. The BIG difference was in the power from my race kit. I ride my bike with the race kit since 3 or 4 month and I didn't remember the difference with a stock one. With my 9SX with the race kit, I can make very nice wheelies when I shift from first gear to second. With the stock 9SX, the only thing I got from first gear to second...... is the rev limiter! |

23,000 miles with a race kit and well worth the dollar, not too loud, not too quiet and lots of power, I dyno'd at 97 rwhp! |

Thanks all. These are the kind of opinions I was looking for. (Ingemar: Didn't post to the knowledge vault, because it was more opinion I was looking for than actual technical "knowledge". My bad, I guess.) Looks like I'll soon be calling DaveS. I've already got the Filter, and have de-snorkeled, so I'll just be getting the Muffler and ECM. (I like the looks of the race kit muffler, so that's probably going to be my choice.) Again, Thanks everyone. |

Thanks for the friendly reminder Ingemar. Thanks Sped214 for posting an interesting question worth saving in the KV. We'll relocate the thread to the "Engine - Exhaust" topic there. Thanks. 172689 (Message edited by blake on October 02, 2005) |
