Blake - I know you can search one topic at a time, which is handy, but my thought was to be able to select the forums I want to search at the time of the query. This morning I may only want to see new topics in the XBoard and the Quick Board. Later this afternoon I may want to do those two as well as the KV. The opportunity to include multiple forums at the time of the search would be handy. I'd rather not have to go into my profile each time to check off what I want to include in my searches.

I'm pretty sure that if you use search, Not last day or last week but the one that actually says "search" you can pick all of Badweb, One specific section, or all the sections that are marked in your favorites. |

Is it just me or does the whole "Archive" feature of this board seem awkward?
Trying to control the way people post on these kinds of boards is like herding cats. If Blake has the time and energy, more power to him, but it seems futile to me.

Which is why I have asked for everyone's help. Thanks to all who will decide to pitch in and help remind others to post tech and info related topics to the applicable KV topic.

Again, that capability already exists. Simply make use of the "Don't remember this search" option. Then you can go back and search each topic as you wish. Me, I just search the entire board and skip over those topics listed that do not interest me. It ain't that tough of a proposition is it?

A agree that the BadWeB archiving method is clunky. We are looking forward to a change with the next release. And again, the effort to herd applicable threads to the KV is not futile by any means, if that is you and others would be supportive of it. If you or others notice a new thread that belongs in the KV, please simply remind/advise them just as I and other custodians have been doing. Pretty soon, you'll see virtually all applicable threads showing up in the KV. It is already paying off. Sure would appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks Henrik for your logical analysis of the issue. We'll hopefully be doing even more in the future to improve the usefullness and organization of the KV. |

Some relevant history. At one time BadWeB discussion topics consisted of only the General Discussion Board (GDB) and the Knowledge Vault (KV). Folks at the time had little trouble understanding the value of separating the more socially oriented threads from technical/informational topics at that time. Because of that organization, and the ease of perusing purely technical type information, the board grew and flourished. The GDB soon became overwhelmed, so we created the Quick Board and then the Thumper Forum, and then the XBoard, now the Big, Bad, & Dirty topic for the Uly riders.
I understand some folks have strongly held views and opinions. Some of the custodians here have been with BadWeB since it's inception back in 1998. I think we have a pretty good feel for what works and what doesn't, what is benificial and what is not. So thanks for all the comments; they are appreciated. None of the issues raised have missed our consideration and we remain resolved to continue our efforts to get applicable threads posted to their appropriate KV topic and to remind folks to post descriptive titles to any threads they see fit to post there. We are humbly asking for everyone's help in this effort to improve the site. We hope that everyone will kindly join us and help to make BadWeB a better more useful place.

If things are looking clunky, maybe we should look at how others deal with similar problems. While following an earlier thread on alternative jap bikes to supplement ownership of my Buell XB, my search came down to a Suzuki V1000S, (a V twin liter bike, 120 HP, 11Krpm ala Ducati), which eventually led me to their common owners page comparable to Bad Weather Bikers. Since all of these bulletin boards are run by underlying software it might be insightful to see how others solve the same problems we have been discussing. So......it might be instructive to take a look at their site:

The site seems very well organized, and user friendly, even with a forum to upload any photos of interest by members.
