After reading all the reviews and looking hard at the actual riding I do, I believe I would be much happier with the Uly rather than the S or Ss. But the hooligan in me and as with a few others here, I am not really into the dirtbike or GS looks of it... so here is a bad photochop of Uly with out the high front fender replaced with the regular front from the S line. Voilą... Multistrada instead of GS... just having a little fun but, I think I like it... and it looks like all the mounting holes would match up too.

I like the look of the lower front fender as well. I'm not really into that higher motocross look fender that comes stock.

Nice job! Now chop the mirrors off and put napleons bar ends that are turned down.

Neat photoshops -- not bad at all. I've been thinking about the fender swap, too; I don't plan to take the Uly off-road, and like the standard Lightning front-end look better.

But please, don't compare the Uly (with or without the high fender) to the Multistrada; IMO, the styling of the Duc's front end is a gift to every competing bike.

Might just as well clean up the rear end and take the decals off the "tank" while you're at it, no?

Now we're getting there : )

"But please, don't compare the Uly (with or without the high fender) to the Multistrada; IMO, the styling of the Duc's front end is a gift to every competing bike."

LOL, can't argue with that! ...So I says to the guy ; ) (this time the guy being the Duc dealer)
"That is a beautiful bike, except for the goofy looking front end..."

He didn't agree of course : D

Oh yeah... Chris that's it. Now all's I got to do is swap out the forks & shock from the Ss, add the low seat (I'm in the dictionary under 'jockey') slap on the hard bags and shazam! There's my Buell Sport-Tour setup. Hee hee...

Whether you like the look of the front fender or not I have heard some rumblings from BMW forums on how Buell stole their look.

If somebody pulls that shortsighted crap point them to this bike:

http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/DR-series/DR-Big/1988_DR750-Big_blue_800.jpg

and remind them that BMW stole it from Suzuki, and Suzuki did it almost 20 years ago.

THe Ulysses comes with an LED tail light, but not an integrated turn signal unit. I'll be looking into that, you can bet!

I hope to pick mine up this week. It will have the fender test performed in the first few hours of ownership. And I'll be scouting out that tail chop right away!

Al,
I can't find a good side shot with high enough resolution to work with.
I can't remove the images from the Buell site anymore either.
If you have a good side shot, and could email it to me, I will see what I can do.

Please let me know if this (fender replacement) is going to work, I am getting more excited now that I think I can have the comforts of the 12X with the looks of the S!!

Thanks.

thanks Jon!

Can you scale the fairing up by, say 20%, and put it there?

As much as the CW articles indicate that the wind protection with the flyscreen and hand guards is OK, I think some folks want what the S3 had...a rear fairing that could provide WATER protection. I've hunkered down behind my S3 fairing a number of times in the rain, especially when I wasn't wearing a rain suit. I'll certainly be looking at producing a frame mounted fairing for the Ulysses.

Thanks,
Al

I think what Buell should do, is to have a " Built to order" program, where you pick your wheelbase, motor, color, wheel color, seat, front end (S or R).
It would be a bit of a pain in the butt for the factory, but since they are really built individually anyway by pretty enthusiastic employees, I think it just might be worth it in terms of increased sales. Another idea would be to use the same electical layout for all models to facilitate the assemby.
OK:
Here is what I would do:
xxx
I might go for the longer wheelbase though, have to try it first.
I am 6-2" 210#, perhaps just a bit large for the XB9S that I have.

You could also add the Kick Ash airbox to the blak Uly. But I like the s looking front end better then the firebolts. I would love to have a see through red air box cover!

Jon,
Very cool, thank you. If it is possible to do, I WILL develop a frame mounted fairing for it. If it's possible, I'll use the XB fairing mount and develop the fairing itself to interface to that, since that fairing mount already solves many issues such as the instrument mounting, etc.

I should be picking up my XB12X this week, it is in at the dealer.

Thanks,
Al

I actually like the high fender. I think with the tall suspension, it looks like something is missing with all that empty space (to each his own I guess). But ditch the rear fender ext., mirrors and hand guards (put them back on in the cold months).

Waiting for my local dealer to get theirs in so I can take an analog look.

I want a XB12SsX. Just add the ULY tail end to the XB12Ss. Oh and I want it blacked out. Jon can you work on that?
