Hi All, So, I sent an email to Al at American Sport Bike about the second version of his scoop for the 12's and it will be a little longer till they are finished. I want to see which one I like better between Trojan and American Sport Bike before I get one. However, it's still summer even in the northeast and the XB's running hot. After giving her a wash and kicking back with a frosty Buzzards Bay stock ale, the old hot rodder in me took over. I took the scoop off, cut the top rib off, bent up some threaded rod and now I have a low dollar fix until I get a good looking one. I'm sure this is not as good as either American Sport Bike's or Trojan's but I can go down the highway at a very good clip and the fan never turns on even in 90+ degree temps. Now if I sit in traffic and the fan comes on, it turns off after couple miles of open running instead of staying on pretty much forever. Here's a pic for you if your looking for a low dollar fix or waiting like I am.  My 53 cents, Tom PS:Speaking of Buzzards Bay ale, if anyone is interested in taking a ride out to the brewery in Wesport Mass, I know a lot of really nice roads that are just begging for a bunch of Buell's. | ||

neat idea. for a few pennies more, why not cover the threaded rod with some shrink wrap meant for wires. might clean it up a little bit? | ||

That is the best Ghetto mod I have seen yet!! And I agree, a little shrink wrap and non chrome hardware, and we are in there, for as it was said, "the time being". Tomorrows project!! Bruce | ||

Tom, Very creative stop gap. However, the blue color of your pipes suggests that you might be running a bit lean. | ||

All Buells blue pipes. And, the blue pipes are more likely from a bit of a rich mixture, not lean. Think "flame in the pipe." | ||

Jon, The blue pipes came from running Sunoco GT-100 race gas when the bike had a detonation issue from static timing being too advanced. Yes, it ran richer with the race gas. And to vent a bit, my dealers "wonderful" service dept told me nothing was wrong with the timing and charged me an hours labor for "sending it in for nothing". But now, after they "did nothing but check it" it can run on pump 91 and I can't get it to detonate at all. Hmmmm. Just one more example of the biased service network we have to work within. If it ain't chrome, they don't want to see it. OK, rant over. As far as the rod looking a little hack. Yep, I agree but I think I'll claim that "the threads assist in channeling the air in the proper direction for maximum cooling" How's that sound? The 53 cent figure I placed on this was for the 2 acorn nuts at the hardware store down the street, + tax.... Tom | ||

How's the rear mounting bolt plastic holding up? I figured the extra front offset might play stretchy or snappy on that stuff. |
