try KV...... that is the KNOWLEDGE VAULT. it has been done, and very well documented. i have 6000 miles on a chain. no problems.

One of our sponsors, Trojan Horse, has a very nice kit.

Race Pilot, one of our members is using it for racing, likes it very much.
This kit uses the stock swing arm, which saves money big time and adds stiffness.
However they are in England.

I just installed the chain drive conversion from Trojan-Horse/Adrenaline-Moto.Easy install,quality components,comes w/4 diff. rear sprockets.You provide your own chain.I will be testing it out Mon. the 4th at the track.

the chain conversion...this is how i discovered the whole bwb. all i wanted was a chain, now i have a habit...and not a chain. better get over to that knowledge board.

Someone did post results on the Trojan kit in a thread a while back. Everything was very positive. The different sprockets give you some gearing choices and it even comes with a sprocket tensioner. Them being in England just means you have to be a little patient for the parts to arrive.

Actually it is Race Pirate.
His name is Buzz Armstrong. He is Buell racer and all around nice guy.

The chain conversion is illustrated on the site.
General consensus seems to be that for the street, on good roads the standard belt is preferable for smoothness, speed, lack of maintenance. 2003 models need the latest version of the belt.
For bad roads, and racing, the chain is the thing.
Your mileage may vary:-)

just got an e-mail from those nice folks over at trojan horse. say they can have the kit delivered to my door in N.J. in 5 days.price was just over $1000.00 shipping included. now all i need is $1000.00

yeah man one thousand. the other ones that require a new swingarm are $2400.00 at least thats what i hear, i don't know who makes it.i have what i think is going to be a great mod. for the trojan set up. any interest?

cant you just buy a couple sprockets? i think the chain drive has been around for what about 200 years or so? Tain't rocket science.

that is a great idea. i guess all i need is to figure out the spline on the trans and the bolt pattern on the wheel. aint that your black 12r i've seen around here with a chain? if so perhaps you would be interested in the tensioner i plan on running on my chain drive. whichever one i use.

where i got my stuff

vortexracing rear sprocket
racingmotorcycles front and idler sprocket
denniskirk also has front (92 sportster)
motorcycleproshop chain

i also had a polyureathane chain rollor(idler wheel) custom made that i am going to try

whole setup can be done for aprox 200 bucks

i believe fullpower has a complete write up on chain conversion on here somewhere(try search for more info)

Tested the Trojan chain drive conversion kit at Willow Springs on Mon.It was a CalSportbike track day so everything went perfectly.The stock gearing on my 12R was a little tall for me.Tried 3 diff. sprockets(kit comes w/4)and found the combo that works for me.The product looks great,saves weight and performed flawlessly.

I use the Hal's conversion - it also gives you a little longer wheelbase - BUT it's pretty expensive. I think some scavenger hunting can build you a setup for a couple hundred $$ but you will need spacers on the rear to put the sprockets in line with each other.

I don't care what the party line is, the longer wheelbase helps at high speeds but comes at a price.

The extended swingarm kit is $$$, but what about the club racer? Some guys have a $2500 to race for the year, (I know I do). Some of the guys here have crafted there own conversion which is great, the Trojan kit is done all you need to do is know how to operate hand tools. Bottomline even if you bought a stock 600cc Yamasaki most of em need to have the sprockets changed for a usable track ratio, at which point most switch to a 520 conversion. I like the conversion thats offered by Adrenalin Moto/ Trojan, the R&D is done, The kit works, its being proven here in the USA now and the quality is top notch and leaves $1500 for track time.

there is only two parts in the trojan kit that would make things a little easier, but they wont sell them

so i say save 800 and modify your idler

hopefully someone will come up with a adjustable idler soon that we can buy to go with are own sprockets and chains
