I have a 2004 XB12R with approx. 4000 miles on it. The front brake rotor has started to make a "buzzing" sound when I apply the front brake. It's not a typicall "metal on metal" noise that you hear when pads wear out. It's quite simply an odd buzzing noise, but the brakes hold well. Under normal conditions, how long should front brake pads last 5K, 10K, etc? I am quite surpirsed that mine are drawing my attention at 4K miles. I should point out that the rear brake pads have the same miles and have been maintenance free. |

it all depends on riding style. if you primarily ride the hwy, they could last 30,000. |

It depends on the condition of the rotor, if you get hotspot buildups, just take a surface prep kit from your local autoparts shop, the drill and rough up the hotspots, the buzzing should diminish alot. Also check and see if your caliper is binding up. It can allow one pad to stay in contact with the rotor and wear one side early. I have gone through 3 sets of front pads, but then I can be very heavy on the front brakes, this last change was also due to the caliper binding up. Was down to the bottom of the grooves on one side, and 1/2 the pad left on the other. My bad for not checking more often. |

It depends, but as long as you still can see the cross-cut grooves you are safe. Lyndalls are awesome, just be sure you follow the break-in directions. |
