I for one would be more likely to go to Daytona if there were no "bike week" - only racing.

Too big and crowded for me. If I could get a motorhome to stay at the track for the week between FUSA and AMA - I'd go.

"Wow, I don't really get any of the negative comments from HD guys."

This is true for me too. I've never had anything but interest from Harley riders. They're very curious how Buells stack up against sportbikes.

I've never actually had anyone say anything bad to me about my Buell. The greatest compliment I ever got was from a good friend who rides a GSXR1000. When someone asked him if I could keep up in the mountains, he said, "That Buell doesn't hold him back. I couldn't shake him until the road straightened out."

I no longer get the bad vibes from the HD crowd around here. About all I ever hear is the same thing Steve MacKay did and that has to do with them being so ingrained with riding feet first, that riding head first scares them.

Gosh, if they only gave it a try at a demo day and got the feeling of flying like Superman, they just might stick one in their garage along side the HOG. LOL

I always love the people that have the "Harley only" attitude that don't even own a bike of any kind.

Sadly its not just HD owners or even HD wannabes that tend to have this crappy attitude, it also exists among Goldwing owners, Dirtbikers, BMW'ers & yes even Buellers.

And Yamaha owners, and Honda owners, etc, etc, etc. It exists regardless of brand. You just have to ignore those types. I'll ride with anyone regardless of brand. I'm just there for the ride, not the competition.

Incidentally, if you ever get in a conversation with a Harley Devotee, be real careful when talking about cornering techniques. Late braking, reliance on the front brake, late apexes and counter steering are words most of them can't relate to and cause them to run the other way.

Sure, if they took the Riders Edge or MSF course they would have heard of them, even practiced a little. However, most of it just goes right out the window once they get their license. Unfortunately, this applies to the loudest most obnoxious ones, eh?

DJ, I'm the same way. I ride with a mixed group/ Kawi 636,GSXR-1000, V-rod, older Kawi 600, GSX-1300 busa,a sporty, and me on my XB9sl.

I also know alot of true Harley guys in a couple of the local MC and 95% of them get a real kick out of my Buell with the D&D.

MY thought is if you love being on two wheels and just enjoy riding, you're good in my book no matter what kind of bike those wheels are attached to.

Incorrect Steve, I personally didnt feel it was crowded at all this year. The events are spread out over a big enough area that traffic jams were non-existant unless you hit main street friday or saturday night. And if the races are all you are interested in, then you could stay at the RV park Coolice does, right outside of turn 3 & you can literally walk right to the track every single day.

I get Harley riders giving me dirty looks when I roll up at the dealership wearing my HD leather jacket.

You should see the looks I get when I walk into a dealership wearing my Yamaha hoodie while riding a HD: D

Steve...Sounds like a plan. Would love to finally ride an XB12S or R for that matter.

However, I am in the wait and see mode concerning the two new models Buell is reported to be introducing at the July Dealer Show.

What are the hours?

Must be similar to the look I got when I walked into a Gibson guitar store in Nashville wearing a Fender t-shirt.

Greg - I guess my experience with Daytona is just the image I got on TV with the (embarrassed to admit) American Chopper s*it.

I'm still gonna do it. I was going to pit in both races this year but injuries kept me outta circulation. (PS be watching Scott Jensen on the Gixxer 1000 this year - sponsored by White Buffalo and JQ Moto with significant support from Tom Spence - he'll be in the top 10 - maybe top 3 if he can make all the races this year with the new sponsors and support)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! I don't know how many times i've heard that. Wait till you pass a harley on the interstate with your loud tuned exhaust, and then slow down a bit. I guarantee he will pull up next to you and give you the thumbs up. Get a force pipe and have an even louder bike than he. If you run into one of those smug bastards ask him how much his cost him, then how fast it will go, how does it handle, then tell him to do a cost benefit analysis. If he still doesn't think your the better business man, ask him if his is paid for.
If it is he's probably a doctor or lawyer, if he's a lawyer no further conversation is needed, unless he can get you our of the ticket you got on the way there.

Steve, all TV or American thunder wants to show you is the big crowds & yes if you hit main street then you can find them but everywhere else its not bad at all. Hell even with the traffic we had I was able to get up to an indicated 178 mph on LPGA blvd so it isnt that crowded.

Now Sturgis is a different deal & does indeed get pretty crowded, even out on the highways you can get bunched up..but not all the time. The you hit towns like Deadwood or keystone & even tho they are busy its not so crazy that you are miserable.

The rice crowd around here likes my Buell. Can't really explain it either; we have no corners in the desert... I do get compliments from both crowds here though.

If they want to argue about it, point to the "Bar and Shield" logo at the base of each cylinder on the left hand side of the motor! Shut a few ricers up that way.

Riding a Buell is still kinda like you get a choice of being a total outsider - not accepted by EITHER the sportbike or Harley crowds... or you can be accepted by both. Depends.

I've got a couple racers at Willow who want to take the Muell out now that I'm still going to be laid up a few more months and ESPECIALLY since Buell has put so much money into Willow Springs Middleweight Twins class racing this year.

Kinda cool thing about racing - you don't have to explain nuttin to nobody - cos to quote the wise old sage: "when the green flag drops, the bull**** stops"

Dick: This area is for Harleys only.
Me: Hey, thanks man. If I had left my bike here I might have gotten oil all over my tyres.

When you ride a buell, you have to do a lot
of explaining to the sport bike group
and the upright HD’s.

We’re in group by ourselves, but that’s
one of the great things about the Buell.

I hope to get a Dyna, so the wife will
like to ride. But no money to do so right now.

I’m over the inline 4, sport bikes. I have owned a
bunch of em. They don’t appeal to me anymore.
But Ducati 999R does, pumping out 150 hp.
But the price tag 30,000.00
Where’s Santa when ya need him!

Outrider,

You mentioned two new models from Buell announced in July. Is there any info on what they are planning on?? I am real close to buying a street rod, but would rather have a modern version of my 95 s2.

Madduck...No info at all. Just read on the BWB that two new models are planned to be intro'd at the July Dealer Show.

What they will be is anyone's guess. Unless you are really in love with the Street Rod, you may just want to wait and see. If Buell introduces the new models as Harley did the Street Rod, you will be reading about them and be able to ride them within a few weeks of the Dealer Meeting.

I don't blame any manufacturer for reserving the right to intro a new product to their dealers prior to leaking any info out to the public. That is what keeps the "Team" working in a positive direction.

The only exception to that is KTM and they are involving the world in their product development phases as an advertising ploy to gain and maintain our attention, interest and desire.

Steve,

I was at SOW on the 19th and someone mentioned seeing you in a really bad crash (got hit by the bike or something). I don't know if you posted about this happening, or if it was you, but I hope you are doing ok.

My favorite is that when a HD guy is "blipping" his throttle at a light I will run my bike up to about 5500 rpm. I found the cops look at him long before they think it is me. It's to hard to make noise while moving though. The biggest problem with taking off at the green light is that the Buell just gets going to fast. Next thing I know I am doing 80... (and the Harley is far behind me)

Just remember to stay on their right so the exhaust really hits em!
