Fellas- Need some help and as an added bonus I am new to the board. This may have been asked a dozen times before, but which exhaust will give me more performance without the cost of my hearing for my 2005 XB9R? I am in the Army and leave my house at 0530 each weekday. The last thing I want to do is plaster my kids and neighbors to there bedroom walls each time I pull out of the driveway. Plus I have to get past the MPs at the front gate. I have narrowed it down to 4 slip-ons based on price and availability of a street version. Wileyco RS46 Jardine Scorpion Drummer Anyone have positive / negative experience with any of the above slip-ons? Exhaust note is the biggest discriminator. - Chad | ||

Wileyco has a quieter muffler than most from what I've heard, all the others are pretty loud. | ||

Truthfully, the race kit muffler isn't overpowering at all. But if you're concerned with too much noise with the addition of a pipe, there might not be one. I think you need to hear them on a 9 or 12 to be certain of the noise volume. For reference, I've got the race pipe on mine and love it for many reasons including it's exhaust note...(or lack of exhaust note for some people) | ||

I have the race pipe on my 9R and I love the note. Loud enough to get noticed in a good way, but doesn't P.O. many people. (I also leave for work 5-ish in the AM.) My sis has a Jardine on her 9R and that note is low and loud. I don't suppose you would be interested in buying my spare set of straight pipes.  | ||

The original Drummer sounds like V8 with turbo mufflers. The loud drummer "is just that", it's loud. And sounds sooooo Baaaaaaaaaaad! You need a pipe that the a silencer can be removed when ya want to make some noise. | ||

I am also in the Army. I have the D&D on my 04 XB9s. It is loud when you get on it, but you can also be light on the trottle, short shift and keep the noise down. As far as MPs I have no probs here at all with them and my pipe. I infact get alot of complaments coming thru the gates. Get a good pipe and dont ride thru your NH at WOT and you'll be fine.  | ||

I've got the Latus, and if I just don't get on it, it's not that loud. When I go through my neighborhood, I just putter through and no one complains. I live in South Austin though where no one complains about much anyway. That's why I stay.  | ||

Screw the Neighbors, if they B!tch, just tell them that you protect their freedom of speech which gives them the right to B!tch. The Drummer has Great Sound in my opinion. I leave the house also @0530 and haven't had a complaint yet. I live on a cul-de-sac, just pull out to the end of the driveway and fire her up. Throttle control will be your friend in the mornings. My V&H would rattle the windows of cars as I went by, but in the mornings and evenings I would use the gear that had the motor just off idle as I cruised through the neighborhood and kept the throttle blipping to a minimum. Some of my neighbors have obnoxious pipes on their custom HD's that are just plain loud and obnoxious even at idle so my neighbors actually like me. | ||

Ya my Drummer is bit louder than i thought but like Wycked says, easy on the gas, and its ok. Unfortunately , I have a steep driveway to exit and have to gun it to get out. | ||

have the jardine on xb12s,can be loud when on throttle,but also lay off and gear up in my neighborhood,may get some looks but no complaints | ||

jardine on my 9..nice deep note and sounds great when on it,but as stated short shifting and keeping revs down its ok.....besides "all these engines are loud officer"....had the race pipe before and the jardine is deeper tone for sure...you will get so many recomendations for pipes on here your head will spin..try to listen to some and make your mind up on what you want | ||

That does sound pretty good, but in my experience, no sound files have really done justice to the true sound of a pipe. | ||

I just put a buell race pipe on and was pleasantly surprised by the sound...it's louder than I thought but not too loud...judging by some of the comments I've seen on this board I wasn't expecting it to sound much better than stock...not true, sounds great. (and yes I have heard a D&D, Latus & Drummer as well) | ||

Bbstacker, it doesn``t lack power down below either , some may have a better power curve from 2000 to 3500 but if I`m cranking it I`m always over the 3000 grand mark anyways, anything lower than that and as far as I`m concern one is lugging a V-twin engine anyways if they hit it down there , not being in the right gear anyways that is... | ||

stryker... I have a "Loud Arse Drummer" and yes it sets the car alarms off in the neighborhood (well the ones that have not yet reset their sensitivity) I also live in a cul-de-sac in base housing. The way I figure it is... if I am getting up for PT so is someone else in the houses around me. Get what you want as far as power and sound and enjoy your bike. I agree with Ski "F" the neighbors(I know you didn't say it that way). Besides you'll only be with them a max of 3 years, one of you will be PCS'ing soon. Hey Shawn, How loud is that loud arse drummer.. I have the old drummer now. I had a force pipe on my M2 and that was loud. |
