I'm working on the '08 R model I picked up last week. I believe it has the original instrument cluster. The previous owner had the Theft Mode set to Ask when key off. As it keeps the panel illuminated for four minutes waiting for a code entry, I wondered if maybe it had somehow malfunctioned and caused the dead battery I found this morning in spite of having left the Battery Tender Jr hooked up last night. I found today that the Toggle and Mode switches had started working normally so I decided to change the security setting to Off. I followed the instructions in the '08 owners manual to turn it off, and got confirmation in the display. After turning the key switch and kill switch off, I noticed the little red security light blinking in the lower right corner of the display. I turned the key back to the run position, and sure enough, was prompted for the security code. Obviously the system turned on, even though the display confirmed I had turned it off. Any suggestions? |

The dealership service dept has a way to get past the password but I don't know more. Give your local a call. Z |

Z, I have the PO's passcode and successfully changed it to my own. No problem there. As I said, the IC confirmed the change to theft mode off. |

Do you have a Comm error in your historics? set by glitch? It's not an AI thing I hope... Rise of the Cluster!!! (Message edited by zac4mac on September 12, 2015) |

No Comm error last time I checked, but I'll check again. Could be IT'S ALIVE and doesn't think it should be turned off. I fixed it though...disconnected the battery last night. No time to mess with it yet today. |

I bought this for a parts bike, but am toying with the idea of doing something else with it (as if I don't already have more projects than I can handle, and no longer used toys taking up shop space). I don't really want to invest in a new IC for it before deciding it's future. I could install a ground cutoff switch in the battery circuit like I do with my shovelheads (under the assumption that the IC caused the battery drain the other night). I'm not entirely clear on what happens when you hook up a used IC that's been "married" to another ECM. Can you use it as long as you know the passcode for the ECM, or are there more complications beyond that? |

You can use any other one. The mileage can't be changed. It's stored in a chip in the IC as well as the ECM. |

Thanks Shawn. Any idea which mileage gets displayed? The mileage in the ECM? Or the mileage in the IC? Or the higher or the two? Not that it matters in this application. |

The mileage the new IC has stored in it. |

Thanks again, Shawn. Anyone have a good used IC they want to sell for a reasonable price? I'll take a look at the classifieds and EBay. |

If you're still in flux on the 1125's future, leave the IC for now. The bike will run fine without it, so says Jim Duggar who's been racing them a long time. |

Thanks. I guess it's easy enough to pull the negative terminal at night for now to avoid problems. I played with the security setting again tonight. Repeated the book procedure several times for Off when Key Off. Same result, system turned ON with key OFF. Eventually tried setting it to turn ON when key OFF. Now it goes OFF... |
