I just thought I would start a thread about mods and which mods are my favorite and why. I would love for other people to chip in and tell me their favorite mods and why!

1.tidy ups "i.e removing stock blinkers, mirrors and licences plate brackets"
I feel stock items dont do bikes justice in general.
2.sticky tires, I ride very hard and on very curvy roads so sticky tires are a must on any bike for me!
3.exhaust. Now the exhaust really depends on the bike, my 1125r i love to howl and scream when I open the throttle, whilst my suzuki dr200 I love not being able to almost not hear it.
4.STICKERS!!!!! I love the race look on my sportbikes and stickers do that wonderfully.
5.Gp shifting. Being a licensed road racer, I normally and leaned very far over all the time so the gp shift patter helps to not scratch my boot on the ground.

Those are the immediate things I do, now i would like to hear everyone else's!

Mods wise I like what people do to make the bike match their personality. I have the EBR Pegasus where my Buell badges used to be, "erikbuellracing" decals on my pods, and the stock Buell badges on my frame where my knees ride. I don't care what anyone else thinks of it. I love it.

I also love the led brake light mod for the passenger peg brackets. that's a winter project for me.

HIDS are awesome and I plan to do that in the future.

Stickers make you go faster!!!
Where to start, since tracking out my 1125 the mods list is long, but among my favorites is radial master cylinders for brake and clutch, 1190 rotor, and sbs DS pads, one finger braking in most situations. Quick shifter would be my next favorite.

Tires--the stock tires on most bikes don't handle very well. Previously, I liked the Pilot Power 2CT, then the Power Pure, and most recently, the Qualifier 3s.

Suspension adjustments--getting everything set up the way I like it. If I can't get it dialed in, then I upgrade as necessary. The 1125 got 10wt fork oil, for example, which made a big improvement.

Tech Spec Gripster pads--so I can get a grip on the tank with my legs.

Brake pads--my favorite is the Vesrah SRJL-17 compound but it's not available for the ZTL2, so instead I use the Dunlopad HH+, which performs close to as well as the SRJL. Part number is SDP993. Initial bite and cold stopping power are much improved, as is overall stopping power.

Exhaust--stock is usually way too quiet. Barker on my 1125.

Race ECM or tune--depends on how well the bike runs stock. I'm probably the only person who'll say this, but I thought that my 1125 ran pretty well with the stock tune (latest mapping as of 2010) and didn't notice a significant improvement with the EBR race ECM.

K&N--ehh, take it or leave it. My bikes all have them because I'm a sucker for "more power", but the reality is that there's never been a noticeable increase in power, and they don't filter as well as stock.

Since this is an opinion thread, here is mine based on more than 50 years of riding and hot rodding. Modifications that do not improve form, fit or function are a waste of money. Your choice of mods must meet your riding requirements, not someone else's. Race bikes do not work well on the public roads. Loud exhausts are not necessary for more power and in fact often make LESS power than stock. The best mods are those that address inherent faults based on a comprehensive analysis, not advertising hype. Factories build bikes for Joe Average, which cannot economically address unique, individual requirements. Factories do a remarkable job in consideration of their available market and budget constraints. This difference is the window of opportunity for successful mods.

That said, the areas on the 1125 that really require attention have not been met by the aftermarket. They are heat management, electrical system, engine oiling, poor low speed performance, traffic drivability and poor fuel efficiency. By addressing these shortcomings will also deliver more engine power by default. However, this is not what we see folks doing, they buy LED lights, loud exhausts and add stickers. I suppose as stupid as that is, it is a windfall for the bullshit part suppliers. Hard parts are expensive, not available and require skills to employ that exceed the skill set of the average enthusiast.

Stevel ~ most people enjoy the idea of improving on a design, a Keda exhaust or Barker with an EBR ECM guarantee's better performance. In the case of the 1125 many of the issues you have mentioned are true of every bike in this market space. I respect your opinion, perhaps another bike would be a better fit for you at this time?

Would these not fall into the "form" category at minimum and LED lights/exhaust could also fall under function? I know for me LED/HID lights are a necessity, too many 4 legged friends out and about at night.

Your ideas on mods is very much in line with mine but that doesn't mean that that making a bike look better should be looked down upon IMHO.

Hm...

My CR has HID low beam...LED high beam...heated grips...Ulysses pegs...Buell touring seat...XB-R tailbag...PR2 tires...and '10 LED taillight.

Works just fine for me.

To the OP -

1) really? You wanna look good? Or keep from being squashed by cagers?? I prefer visibility.

4) um...ok. draw all the police attention you want.

5) you push that hard on public roads? Really? Go do a track day.

-Ratbuell

being a U.S marshall I can honestly say a sport bike with stickers has never caused me to want to pull them over or even draw more attention to them being stickers are just for looks. I normally thumbs up motorcycles. Granted Marshalls don't do traffic stops normally but we can on occasion if we feel the vehicle is driving recklessly.

leaning a bike over hard and pushing it hard speed wise are very different. I hold a very tight line, I guess because of my years of track riding, so I lean over very far whilst barely going over the speed limit. Granted I learned to ride in west virginia in clay county...... anyone who has been there will understand my driving style.

As for the removal of the stock blinkers, I put flush mount blinkers for the front and integrated in the back. I don't ride my 1125r every day, that's what my dr200 is for, and when I do ride my 1125r I ride only on very tight and curvy backroads not in town, so I don't really have to worry all that much about having car drivers seeing my turn signals because I hardly use them.

Rat, are you still happy with that setup? I'm thinking of doing exactly the same (given I already have the HID low beam).

If I were doing it again today, or if the HID dies, I'd probably go LED in both...

Hey Ratbuell, which LED bulb did you end up going with for your high beam? I dislike the warm-up time of the HID bulb in the high beam. There's so many cheap ones out there.

..and you can't even spell it correctly?

Since you don't do traffic enforcement, your opinion on whether or not you are more likely to be pulled over due to an over abundance of stickers is meaningless.

Also, I am 100% in agreement with Ratbuell as far as the visibility thing. Taking off turn signals for the flush mount signals is not prudent whatsoever. Cages can't see us already and you are now giving away more visibility.

But then I don't understand how a person rides in a T-shirt and no gloves either.

My buddy had one of those tiny brake lights with the tiny turn signals on his 'Busa. I hated it. I knew they were there and mostly knew when he was going to make a turn and I STILL had a hard time identifying the "blinker". A cage would never see it.

On a more serious note my best mod was a brake light from XBlights. I have never seen LEDs as bright as Robert's product. I decided to light the full board of LEDs on the running and brake light as i wanted max visibility. Even in the daytime, it hurts your eyes when you look directly at the brake light. And the running light is plenty bright too, which helps minimize the threat of being plowed over while stopped in traffic.

Yeah it was pricy, but it proved its stoutness as it survived a crash where the entire bike landed on the tail section. It broke the lens away from the housing but a little silicon and all was good.

Love it.

OK, I'll throw my 2 cents in. I'm mostly in agreement with Steve. Made changes for ergos; 2" drop pegs (Knight Design), Corbin seat, custom bars (2.5" up & back), Zero Gravity Double Bubble shield. Series (Compufire) voltage rectifier/regulator. EBR LED tail/brake light. On a hot day I peeled the airbox stickers off. Put EBR horse head on pods. Put a compass and voltage monitor in the cockpit. And a Jardine tail tidy. Saddlebags to carry stuff, don't like backpacks. EBR moded rotor this winter. That's my bike, low key.

mr.Fresnobuell I apologize greatly for adding a extra l In the word marshal, But I am just human, and we all make spelling mistakes at times.

And if you are going off of my primary role, then the majority of police officers opinions don't matter either, being half the deputies in a sheriffs department aren't on the road as traffic officers.

As for the blinkers, that is more of a mater of opinion, being that motorcycles are inherently dangerous, I find that the difference of how bright my blinkers are doesn't significantly increase my safety.

And besides, all the visibility I lose with the removal of blinkers, I get back with STICKERS!!!!!!!!!!
