Well, the short story is that I crashed my 1125R and although the bike came out amazingly well, I got busted-up enough to realize I owe it to my young son to give up riding around on a hot rod.
I know I'm going to take a bath on it, but the bike does have an awful lot of desirable attributes:
1) EBR/Showa race shock and fork cartridges, as set-up by Superplush Suspension.
2) EBR race ECM.
3) LSL high bar kit, which raises the bars about 4" and brings them back about 2" (using CR throttle cables and hydraulic hoses). The really neat thing about this setup is that it still works with the stock fairing, with no reduction in steering travel, yet makes the bike MUCH more comfortable.
4) Nissin radial front brake master cylinder (19mm).
5) Buell factory heated handgrips.
6) Precision Engineering tailpeice eliminator.
7) 2010 Buell taillight (clear).
8) Dark Horse Moto fork slider kit.
9) R&G stainless/Delrin handlebar slider kit.
10) Custom machined rear spool/slider kit.
11) All three factory service manuals.

The sliders all did their job, because other than a destroyed fairing, the only damage is a scratched left engine cover and scratched left pod. The title is clear and it only has about 7000 miles on it.
According to the local dealer, the parts to make it just like new would run exactly two grand. For someone who could source race take-offs, or didn't mind a few scratched parts, it might be less than half that much.
But my ribs are all busted, so I can't work on it and am looking to sell it as-is (perfectly rideable, except no lights or mirrors up front).
Just the "extras" listed above put me back over four grand. Now, I'm hoping I can get that much for the whole bike. All I know is this, somebody is going to get a helluva deal on a very fast, very comfortable bike.
Does anybody else think I'm in the ballpark?

Oops, I goofed already. The local dealership quoted the parts at $1512, not two grand.
Regardless, somebody resourceful could definitely put it back on the road for less than a grand.

A lot less than a grand.

If you want to minimise the baff, part the bike out. You are basically trading time and trouble for value.

Personally, I think $4k for that bike will be a long shot. That's about what that bike goes for in ready condition right now. As parts, it's probably $6k. The motor alone is $1000 very easy. Chassis with clean title will probably bring around the same.

Thanks Jim. You're probably right.
It'll be a while until I can turn wrenches again, so I'm probably suffering some anxiety akin to "getting it over with." But patience is probably a virtue in this case. In fact, all those "goodies" I listed could probably get me another grand or two....

I might be interested in the high bar kit depending on asking price, if you decide to part it out (or put it back to stock). I rode a friend's CR with a high bar on it and it was noticeably more comfortable than my R.

Jdugger is right, $4-5k is ballpark for the bike before the wreck, in its current state I would say $2k tops as is. Personally I wouldn't buy it for more than that due to potential hidden damage, things that you don't notice that are broken till you tear it apart or until you ride it.

If I were in your spot, I would wait, heal up a bit, then fix it up over the winter, return it to as stock as possible and then sell it in the spring. You would get significantly more money for it that way, and you would recoup some of the cost of your accessories selling them separate.

Froggy - Thanks for the feedback. Of course, it pisses me off that a bike that pulls 3rd gear wheelies on throttle alone, and is also smooth and comfortable (because it has over $1K into the ergonomics), and also handles (because it has another $2K into the suspension), and which was garaged and babied, and could be put back on the road for under a grand, is worth "$2K tops." But I guess, like accepting that I'll have to live with pain for quite a while longer, that I also have to accept that I am screwed.
The best option might be a combination of Jim Dugger and Froggy advice: To sell as many of the desirable aftermarket parts as I can, then put the bike back together, mostly stock, and sell it in the spring.

Flesh - The whole high-bar package was originally designed (by LSL) for the XB9R, so it includes LSL's upper triple clamp and bars, an OEM XB9R lower triple clamp, plus longer clutch and brake hoses and longer throttle cables (OEM 1125CR).
The bars wind up being farther back and wider than on the CR, and the difference in comfort (especially if combined with 1" lower pegs) is like night and day.
Let me look around and see if I still have all the original parts. If I do, I'd be glad to sell the whole setup. And as a bonus, you'd probably get a set of SS/Delrin bar-end weights that quell vibration and also prevent crash damage.
But I can't afford to give it away. If I remember correctly, the LSL kit cost $600, the OEM lower triple clamp was about $125, and the hoses and cables another $125+, for a total of about $850. So, including the trick bar-ends (worth another $75), I'd have to get $400 for the whole package.
If you think less-than-half-price is within your budget, let me know. If you need a radial master cylinder, that could be part of the package, too.

Thanks!

I'll make note of whatever you guys put dibs on. Due to my injuries, however, it will probably be at least a month till I'm able to do any parting-out.
BTW, the ECM is described by EBR as "Race ECM, Programmed for Pump Gas." It is completely compatible with a stock exhaust, all years, and really helps the bike run smoother and cooler. Probably a little more power, too. But most notable is the improved throttle response, especially down low.

Thanks for the info. I'll pass on the high bar kit--$200 or so is what I'd be willing to pay for handlebar relocation. Not saying your kit isn't worth $400 (half of new sounds reasonable), just that $200 is about the price point where I'd be okay with leaving my bike as-is. I thought there were Helibars or something that moved the clip ons a little bit--not too much to require replacing the stock lines.

Flesh - Yeah, American Sport Bike has a kit that doesn't require new cables or hoses. But on the other hand, it only moves the bars about an inch, so it really doesn't make a very noticeable difference.
I went through the same thought process when I bought the bike: I knew the stock setup was uncomfortable at normal street speeds, but hoped I could get away with something for under $200. In the end, I went for what I wanted rather than what seemed less expensive, and until now, I've never regretted it. Hopefully, someone out here will want to inherit it....

Put a headlight on it and maybe one of those mostly symbolic wind screens from an 1125CR on it - beautiful !

If parting, I would like to be first in line for the forks. Serious.

If you part it out, I'm interested in the wheels and the keyswitch electrical harness.

Like I said, it'll be a few weeks before I can get into the garage. I'll let you know as things proceed.

I would be interested in the frame if you go that route. With some help from fellow Bueller's, you should be able to get it on the road. There is enough of us with extra parts laying around, cheaper than the dealer. Just get healed up firs. Spend the time with your kid. Remember if you feed them they grow. Sometimes too quick and they are all grown up before ya know it. The bike can always wait.

People are selling rashey racebikes for 4K, and complete, perfect streetbikes for 5K right now, you're just in a bad position. Gonna have to put it back together or part it out.

Thanks for the advice, everybody.
I've decided to sit on the bike for now. When I get my strength back, I'll put it together, then put it up for sale as complete. I reckon a grand invested will get it back up to a reasonable resale value. And the labor involved is a lot less than that required to part it out.
Thanks again.
