"no machine racing or practicing at event may exceed 88 db at any time. Sound levels are measured 50 feet from the race surface at an acceleration point. Sound can and will be measured at a number of different locations"
Practically; this being a small and tight track with the typical noise test occurring just off the straightaway - I aim to set a hard rev limit of say 7K for the whole track and likely go half throttle down the straight. I do have the hulking stock exhaust in my basement, yet cringe at the thought of hooking that ballast back up. |

There is a element of this conversation that is very interesting to me.
I had a bad racing incident June 2. As a result, my racing and track time is over. The medical risks are now simply too high.
I love by 1125r, but even though I am old and have a deeply ingrained sense of mortality, I tend to ride it aggressively. That is what it is meant to do. It's not the straights that tempt me, but the nice curvy roads.
I'm seriously considering parting with the Buell and even my street SV and getting an adventure tourer. My thinking is that a bike like that will change my riding style and make it more leisurely while holding a lot of interest in another way.
I simply love to ride.
My friends, crashing sucks, and so does getting old. |

The 1125r in stock trim is pretty dang close to that noise spec. Helpful will be that 50ft distance, but there's NO WAY an aftermarket pipe will pass the test. |

Ogobracing; you hit the nail on the head "That is what it is meant to do". Clearly Erik's passion for racing was injected into this bike and that is where it is happiest. I am sorry to learn of your crash, I had quite a few in my day and likely it was only my youth at the time(early 20's) and sheer luck that kept me out of the emergency room.
Jdugger; I fear you are 99% correct in your appraisal of volume on an aftermarket pipe. My only hope would be do to as I suggested (or simply glide by when I see them running the damn test!) and pray for some good will.. I am now looking at a few other tracks in the Northwest pacific coast area instead. |

No way. The 1125r *attracts* aural attention. If there's any hint of do-gooder in the dude wielding the SPL meter, you are hosed. |

Amen to that. At WERA this weekend, there were several bad crashes. One was my friend Travis, who had a high speed highside off a fast sweeper onto the straight. Broken femur head will need surgery.
One reason I like riding the twins is that it seems to attract an older, more mature racer. I see so many of the kids on 600s have no respect for your line, and take big risks to try and pass where they should not and some bad crashes are the result.
Anyway, here is a pic from yesterdays race. Had to settle for two 3rds. Ok for the first time on this track this year. Back and hip problems are effecting my body position. Getting old does suck.

I really struggle getting my elbow out and holding the control like a screwdriver like you do. It's as if my shoulder is pointed a bit too much into the turn...

You look great to me. I'm just starting to stand the bike up, so I'd like to see my upper body a little lower and my head pointed up some toward my next marker. |

Most adventure tourers are stil pretty sporty. Like an SV, if you ride it hard it'll go fast, that's one of the reasons they're so popular. Most of the liter ADV bikes are waaaay faster than an SV650. I'm with you on it though....they're just so...damned....tall! |

Get a Ulysses from 08+.
I got an 09 a couple of years after getting Loretta.
The Uly now has 32k and Loretta has 28k..
Loretta has 1/2" chicken strips, the Uly has none.
Friends riding behind me say I look like a metronome in the twisties.
As my t-shirt from EBR (for tires on Geoff's bike IIRC) says - "Never Give Up".
I will ride until I'm too feeble to push the START button. or hold it up at a stop light...
