Does anyone know the size of the o-ring used on the oil filter cover?

I wouldn't buy what they say about the oring. I have changed the oil and filter on my bike several times, and never replaced the oring. Just make sure it is clean.

And if you are in a bind and need one because it is leaking or broken. just take a sample to your out parts store. The should have something that will work.

So one buck breaks the bank?

By the time you realize that the o-ring is compromised, maybe you'll also be hearing some strange noises coming out of your engine/transmission!

Well, I do know they can be reused as the one I'm using is on round 2 and holding strong. Just figure I should replace it now that the next change is coming due. Though I would normally order from American Sport Bike, the problem is I don't want to pay shipping for a $1 part. Might go check the local auto parts store or ACE to see if anything matched up.

Essentially, if an o-ring is still pliable and not shredded or its shape squared, it's re-usable.
Same with the thick seals on the rocker box etc.

Navy - If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Army - If it ain't broke, we'll fix it 'til it is.

I have a used paper gasket in my ignition cover right now. it's fine.

Like the time I pulled the very bald tires off my Fiero's wheels and smeared RTV all over the insides and got another 300 miles...
Good ghetto fixes really tax the creative mind.

I bought 50 of them back in 2008 when I first got the bike and started using HF filters at half the price of the dealer. I want to say it was something like $10 for the package, but I don't remember. I've got more than I could ever use now.

I don't change the ring very often, actually. I've never had one fail. Maybe once a season I'll change one... and I change my oil a LOT.

I don't have the part number for them anymore, but I can look next time at the shop.

I agree on the O-ring....it's just an Oring, not magic. Inspect it when you change the oil, replace annually.

Who is HF? $25 a pop from the dealer ain't hittin' on shit. Was gonna try to find a K&N or something.

Half the time they come in a HiFlo box, you open it up, and it's stamped ROTAX.

Not on my end, but since it turns out I needed a new belt for the XB (original with 60K on it is starting to crack on the outside) I went ahead and order 4 of them for future changes.

I'll look it up when I'm at the garage next. Since it's been so long, it's not in my mcmaster order history.
