India's Hero MotoCorp Buys 49.2% Stake In EBR

Does Erik still own the rest?

Why do any of that "better/stronger faster" crap, when you can:

A- Do like HD and have the government protect you with tarrifs and whatnot, allowing you to create a monopoly in which you have no need to compete, thus allowing you to build the same three bikes for 60 years, or.....

B- Join a union and run labor costs up so high no one can manufacture anything here at a decent profit. The only non HD/S&S/Harleyclone US bike maker with a US made engine is Motus, and those things are way over 30 grand a piece. There's Motoczys, too, same thing. Just look at the auto industry, the only one that wasn't bought/bailed out by the govt. was Ford, and that's because they don't make anything here anymore. 90% of their cars are "world spec" Fords, meaning they're Mazdas. Full size Chevy trucks are all built in Mexico, the next Colorado will be a "world spec" thing built in Thailand. The current Camaro is based on Australian designs and built in Canada. In 15 years there won't be a "US General Motors". I think most Chryslers are still built here (the ones that aren't 2nd rate Mitsubishis), and guess what? They're all screaming pieces of shit, which is why Chrysler's always on the edge of insolvency. I think even the semi-truck manufacturers are all foriegn owned now too....Mac is Volvo, and only supplies Mac engines to the military, in a few years they will be all Volvo motored....I'm a vet and bleed red white and blue, but until we adress these things realistically, they will never change.

Besides that, India/Asia is the fastest growing market right now. KTM is selling small displacment Dukes like hotcakes....even Ducati is developing non desmo valvetrains for cheaper India/Asia spec bikes.

We can't build crap to export to the rest of the world right now, why the hell would we build (or invest in) crap for ourselves?

We're just lucky Eric didn't have to go to China for the money.

Everybody wants to get rich quick. Erik isn't going for those traps other companies lay out for him.

Erik wants to build bikes for FOLKS LIKE US! You need money to make money. Hero has money. Erik has the majority ownership. We will get the bikes we want from East Troy.

Hey my GTO was built in Australia and it's been the best damned car I've ever owned. No bullshit either.

I'm not saying that building American vehicles in foreign countries is acceptable, but I don't mind an Aussie building a car. They've shown they can do a good job of it.

As for those other countries...meh...

"flux of money EBR will field a MotoGP team anytime soon It would make me a proud American to see us compete on an international level."

ahahaha! yeah, alright! dream on!

maybe wsbk but never motogp. that alone cost at least 49% of his shares...per year...

...and even in wsbk, they're far from being competitive. they 're not competitive in ama superbike...let's face it. even ktm with their 5 year old bike-design performs better.

far away...

first, i wanna see them build bikes...better bikes.

no offence.

The article in WSJ has the unit target at 20,000 by 2017.

To the point about the American venture industry -- if you do the math on that 20k number, selling motorcycles is a capital-intensive, slower return business than perhaps most of the investment classes venture firms would normally consider.

On top of it, venture firms rarely ever invest in manufacturing of any kind -- at least the ones I've worked with over the years. It's just not their core business, and for that reason alone they wouldn't be likely to invest.

Good for Erik, though... in just 4 years he's built a business that just got valuated at $50m.

The world isn't all cars and clothes. While we might be losing unskilled line jobs for commodity products, the US still leads the way in many kinds of exports, including software, precision instruments, durable goods, heavy equipment, and so on.

F that. Buy Hero's portion and once you're on the board, you can invest whatever you want into production.
