You probably want to use the 10-40 advanced. It's what we use in our race bikes. | ||

Yea, tried it on my stock bike this past oil change. Seems fine here. I went to it because it's cheaper than Mobil-1 now, and rated equally well. | ||

Following a tip from a team that races Ducatis, I started to use Motul Factory Line 15/50 in my 1198. Since using this oil they told me that they've not had any cam follower scuffing at all, unlike with the Shell Rotella which Duc recommends. Since I bought a large barrel of this stuff, I've been using it in my 1125 as well, but I do have a fetish about warming motors up very gently. | ||

Right after warm-up. Oil used for one session! A proper oil change too, with the penta-plate removed and everything. Rob, I've been using the Amsoil 20W 50 in my 1125R. In fact, just changed the oil today. Is the Dominator a better choice for the 1125R. It's Race / Track duty only. | ||

I was using 20-50 as well. Since it's essentially the same motor, I would have to say yes based on what EBR told me. Might be overkill for the 1125 due to less RPM and compression. Doubt it would hurt. | ||

I've been sticking with (Amsoil) 10W40--the reason being that the 10-weight is noticeably thinner than a 15-weight or 20-weight, providing better protection on cold starts, which is where a significant amount of the engine wear happens on street bikes. (This is especially important for bikes ridden in cold temps, where the flowability difference between 10-weight and 15- or 20-weight is even greater.) Also, the 40-weight is only marginally thinner than a 50-weight when hot, so there isn't much difference in protection between the two weights when the oil is hot. A race bike would logically be a different story, since unlike most street bikes, it will spend practically all of its time running being run hard. Wear at startup is less of a concern, but wear under hot, high-load conditions is, hence the benefit of running a 50-weight oil. | ||

Got my case of Amsoil Dominator Racing Oil as recommended by EBR and did the first fill today. This stuff is totally different form the Amsoil 20-50 Motorcycle oil that I have been using. Much thinner and more flow-able when cold. More than I would expect from just a 5 wt difference. Noticeable difference in cold cranking Anxious to see how it effects response and temps on the track. | ||

Any info if the racing oil is recommended for street use in relation to the service interval. Racers probably change their oil much more often than street riders. | ||

I don't see any info on service interval because as mentioned racers are typically compulsive about changing oil. Looking at the oil after a race is a cheep and easy way to evaluate the engine. However I can't see any reason why it would not exceed normal service intervals on a streetbike. I spoke with a tech at Amsoil yesterday and he said the Dominator 15w-50 is not recommended for street only bikes especially due to the long term effect of the extra friction modifiers on the clutch and it is not rated for use with a clutch and is not a motorcycle specific oil for streetbikes. He also said the standard 20W50 Amsoil V Twin oil is bullet proof and more than meets the needs of the streetbike. I was interested in the Dominator race oil for my stock engine, street only, 1125CR as well as for my Harley XR1200. The XR1200 has a 1250 kit, cams, ported heads, stronger valve springs, etc, also only ridden on the street. He said I could put the Dominator race oil in the crankcase of the XR and the standard 20w 50 in the primary but it was not necessary so I am going to stay with regular amsoil or mobil 1 v twin 20w 50.
