Well what do you make of this? Should I be worried? I have 1 year of my aftermarket warranty left. Should I just stop where I'm at and take it in to HD?

Yes, I'd definitely be worried about that

If you are not careful taking the valve cover off you can make these shavings when the hardened metal of the gears cuts into the soft buttery aluminum of the valve cover.

So, either bearing failure or something's rubbing/slapping. Bearing failure = seizure. Rubbing/slapping = ?

Another thought. I've read in this forum about improper heat treating on a batch of cams. Anything noticeable there?

Yeah my original cam had lots of pitting and had to be replaced. This cam was put on 4k ago by HD.
I'm adjusting my valves at 17k because I've noticed loss of power. Guess I need to do a compression test.
This probably don't help with my power lol

My guess is it's shaving material off the chain pins.
You are due for a flush.
Is this what the new chain guides prevent?

<edit> personally I wouldn't let ANY H-D shop touch it.

<another edit> I don't see any other damage. look like clean it up and ride some more...

Maybe when they replaced the cam, could that just be metal shavings from the cam gears mating? (New and old)

Did a compression leak down test.
Front cylinder is 140
Rear cylinder is 138
Metal didn't make it to my cylinders.

Guess I should have replaced the valve cover gaskets. Leaking like you wouldn't believe. I'm not so sure this wasn't a problem before, because my bike has been running hotter than normal.
I replaced my fuel rail and pressure regulator, seems as if the revs are back baby!
Getting giddy!
I have to think matt for helping me with this little project! Hehe local honda mechanic.
Hopefully I'll be road ready by Thursday and track ready by Sunday! I have a lot of work ahead of me.

I think EBR has mad a wise choice by having our local Honda dealer in his network! I'm going to be confidant in buying a new bike and the mechanic in 2016!

Since you said the shavings were magnetic and looking at how close that cam chain is...
Have you updated the cam chain guides?

The valve cover gaskets should be re-usable several times.
They are strong and thick but are easy to kink and spring a leak.
If yours leaks, loosen the bolts and wiggle the cover.. I've been pretty successful now that I know there's a potential issue.
It helps to run a #0 Phillips or ice-pick around the cover to coax the seal in when it wants to pop out.

No, I haven't updated the can chain guides. How often should they be changed? Lol shouldn't they last forever?

Thanks for the advice on my valve cover seals, I will keep that in mind and refer to this thread next time I open her up!
