Tuna, JDugger is Jim Dugger. He ain't me. But he is a good guy that I've wanted to go to Texas to ride with. You need to share some photos of how that bodywork turned out. Those side panels were pretty trashed when I sent them. Hope you're good with body work. I'm the pits. BTW thanks for that video and race report. I bet you're going to have a time on that Buell. I still don't have mine back together, but it's just going to be on the street now. It'll still be fun to ride. Good luck! | ||

HAHA well with the similar screen names I thought you were the same. lol Yes, I was looking at that Buell too!! Yea a guy on the WERA board told me about it. The price was about right but it was much further away. Looked good. Doug...that race report is with your old bodywork! It's too bad you guys can't make it to Texas to race -- it's so hard for me to be able to put aside the time required to race out of region as well. Between 10 weekends a year with the CMRA and teaching with RideSmart, I'm just out of time for much else. | ||

Put up against Gsxr 750s in Superbike B, I consistently finish mid-pack or just a bit above that. 2. I ain't gonna be in the AMA anytime soon. 3. Damn, racing sure is fun. Let's go ride! thus... no stress. | ||

Rogue, I am instructor for RideSmart. I do 1-on-1 lessons through them at TWS, ECR and Cresson. You can also just do the regular track day program, but you don't get as much personal attention, obviously. In general, you need a race license and a properly prepared bike. The race license is earned by going to a trackday school and passing the test + mock race. A properly prepared bike is just safety stuff like lock wire, belly pan, and a mechanically sound bike. Since you are in Texas, the CMRA is where you want to be. WERA doesn't race here. We have a new "try it once" program where you take your license school and then get a 1-weekend license, transponder rental, and two races for about the price of a track day. That might be a way to get a taste without the full commitment. Send me a PM and I'll get you hooked up. If you have some track days under your belt and you get getting quicker in Level-2, you can safely go racing. You won't win, but you will have someone to race with, and the addiction can begin. Kanatuna I don't know if that is the stock seat or not, but if it is the stock seat, by changing it you get much more feel of the bike underneath you (in my personal opinion). Night and Day! | ||

You guys that are already running wera, what do you have safety wired? What items are required to be safety wired. Looked over their rules and because we're Buell some of the items don't line up part to part. So far I have both drain plugs, oil filter bolts, oil fill(dipstick), front pinch, front caliper, are all wired. What else do I need to wire | ||

Kruizen, In addition to your list, I would wire the following for safety: * Rear axle pinch bolt. (you will need a spacer and a longer bolt.) * Motor screen. (5 M6 bolts near clutch-side drain plug.) I would consider doing the following: * Rear axle -- you can do it on the thread side easily enough as just enough lip sticks beyond the swingarm recess. * Shifter and brake levers, and linkage if you are using GP -- they vibrate loose and will cost you a race. * All banjo bolts. These need to be wired TIGHT to be effective. | ||

Jdugger, Totally forgot about the screen access bolts. Already have the rear axle pinch bolt spacer and longer bolt, drilled and ready Have the rear axle drilled, but haven't found a good anchor to wire too. What do you wire to? Have to figure out the GP linkage wiring. Can you buy the Brembo Banjos pre-drilled? Tried to drill one of the stock ones with disasterous results :/ | ||

I think it's a distant chance with the screen, but it's worth wiring. If you did have an issue, it would be a LOT of oil in a BIG hurry. I wire the rear axle to the lift spool. For the GP shift, drill the bolt normally and loop the safety wire around the linkage shaft. It's not a critical fastener, the point is to keep it from coming out completely. Banjo bolts: I use aluminum ones with a recess on the top -- they drill easily, but are a bit of a one-time-use bolt. So, keep spares in stock. You can also use a large drill bit (1/2 or larger) and create your recess in the center of the bolt and then drill from the side until it breaks through in the center. | ||

Thanks for the tips. What thread are the caliper banjo bolts? are they 1.25 thread? the Brembo Banjos I believe are 1.0 thread? | ||

Yes, the banjo bolts for the Buell OEM stuff are Nissin spec at M10x1.25. The brembo pieces use M10x1.0. Get a handful of each, especially if you go Aluminum. | ||

exhaust header nuts for wera as well, oil cooler lines. silicone over the allen bolts that hold the brake pads in. tim | ||

Smoke, Can you include pics of the Oil Line safety wire? How the heck do you safety wire the rear exhaust header nuts? You can barely get a wrench on them let alone safety wire. |
