99% of the time I use the front brake only. Yesterday I went about 120 miles of mostly twisty mountain roads. Occasionally I would come into a turn and need some trail braking to help the turn. A couple of times the rear brake made a loud harmonic howl. Is that howl from lack of use?

Pretty much yes.

Moisture on the rotor can cause it too, so it is normal the first few times you brake after starting it up (exhaust), or while riding in the rain.

Just using it will help. Lord only knows what sort of buildup you're getting on there from disuse.

It always amazes me how many people only use one brake on a motorcycle...there's 2 for a reason.

+1 on Dano's suggestion..mine stuck and required some work to get it "free" again the clearance between the piston and bore on the MASTER CYLINDER is very small and a small amount of corrosion will lock it up...remember brake fluid is hygroscopic (it absorbs water) the master cylinder is anodized aluminum and the piston is poorly plated steel- the piston corrodes and locks up in the MC...the rear brake stays on all the time - a stuck brake light (on) is a tell tale sign as well as no/little movement in the brake pedal....hope this helps

Your stock exhaust blows straight back on your brakes they get carbon up and stick try these. No more problem. I now have a Barker exhaust.
