Author Message   Motorhead102482 Posted on Monday, March 04, 2013 - 11:06 am:        Hi all. I noticed today that my check engine and battery light were going on and off on my way to work. It seemed to come on more when I was at idle. Normally, this would make me think that the stator wasn't charging properly, but I feel like it might be something else because I did see it happen once or twice while i was applying throttle. I think mine is still under warranty. Anything easy I should check? Or should I just take it in before the weather gets too nice? I am running a Race ECM, should I swap this back to factory and see if it goes away?   Terrys1980 Posted on Monday, March 04, 2013 - 11:25 am:        It is probably just a weak battery. The battery light came on on my bike and the voltage was around 12.0 while I was at a red light. I changed the battery and it never came back on. When you bought the battery does not mean much, it could have sat on a shelf since the 90s and you just got it. It is also possible for a new battery to be a dud. Charge it up, check its voltage. If I don't leave it on a battery tender, there's no telling if it will start back up after sitting.   Zac4mac Posted on Monday, March 04, 2013 - 02:17 pm:        Early 08s had a bug in the IC firmware that caused a parasitic drain while turned off. If you can get a new IC thru warranty, do that. If you can't, shut down with the kill switch then the key. Keep it on a tender... I put a new battery in last year and if it sits for more than a week it needs to be jumped. I have also lived with a gas/ engine light that never seems to go off but the bike still runs normal so I just ignore it and reset my trip odo and refuel at 150 miles.
