I need to get surgery on my spine...
Not gonna go into a lot of detail, just that I am going to have to be off bikes at least 6 months, maybe 8 depending on how it heals.

When and if I can ride again, it will likely have to be something lightweight with an upright riding position that is plushly suspended so it can absorb most of the bumps of the roads in LA instead of passing them along to my back and neck... - and where I can stand up on the pegs a lot...something like a drz400sm etc.

So I am thinking of putting my 1125CR on the market even though I love it.

I thought I'd float the idea here before posting an "official" classified on the site or on fleabay etc. I'd rather it go to "one of us..." That way, while I'm healing, I'll at least know that it's being treated well.

details:

2010 RED 1125cr
About 10,000 miles on it
Has had the harness upgrade and is running great on its second stator (hopefully the last).

I have installed black front fender and black side pod covers because I think it looks good like this. I have the original red pieces of course, including the rear seat cowl.

Add-ons:
GPR Stabilizer
EBR ecm
FMF carbon slip on
HID low beam
STEBEL air horn
Rear Fender Eliminator
EBR Front Rotor Mounting kit
Comfort/OEM higher handlebars
Jet coat silver leg-saver heat shield from AmericanSportbike
Axle sliders
Ulysses frame protector pads
Vesrah Brake pads

Also I have:
Clubman bars and cables.
A crappy set of body work painted offwhite for track day use.
A pitbull front stand.
A cheap adjustable aluminum harbor freight rear stand.
An extra front brake master cylinder.
near new michelin pilot power pure tires.

I know what I'd like to get for it.
It's in Los Angeles.
Someone wanna make me an offer?

😞

If I was to sell mine (and I've got lots of extras too) I'd start with an ad on Craigslist at $5000 and hope to get $4500. These are semi-cult-ish machines and once you're indoctrinated you're sorta stuck. Most mortals hear the various stories and fear to join. So you have a limited market. And lots of used Japanese sport bikes cheap to compete against.

Good luck with the operation. I've got a Suzuki DR650 and V-Strom 650 and they both have a plush ride and do much better on the street/highway than the 400's. Love the V-Strom.

I'm hoping to sell it all to one person...I'm gonna try that first.

Thanks though.

Do you have the part number for the Vesrah pads? As far as I could tell, Vesrah doesn't make pads for the 1125s.

Brake pads. http://www.erikbuellracing.com/store/parts-accesso ries/brakes/vesrah-xx-compound-front-brake-pad.htm l

Possibly too granny for the street for normal riding. I like that you can stand the bike on its nose with one finger

Sorry about your back!

Not sure why it's amazing and sad. Sportbikes are the shiny blinky things you buy to consume, like a great cigar or fine bourbon. They are not something you buy to protect, use sparingly, then pass on, like a concourse quality 1972 Porsche 911.

Not to say it shouldn't or won't sell. Just that it will be an uphill walk and will take some time to find the right buyer. While it may be warm in California, the fact that it is still winter for the majority of people reading this board probably won't help either.

Closing of Buell no doubt doesn't help either. Remember that when you do your next article on the "great American motorcycle company" on Juneau Ave, or are interviewing Willie G. Without Buell existing anymore, I'll snap up beat up $1500 M2's and $2500 Uly's all day long... but if I was looking at a newer more expensive Buells I would be more concerned about potential downsides.

Looks like a killer CR, one of the nicest I have seen. Somebody should be very happy with it.

My 2¢... keep it. you'll be back.
I cracked 2 cervical vertebrae and almost went quad in 2001.
I had an awesome neurosurgeon.

Took a year and a half to re-learn to walk. riding was way easier.

As Erik says - Best of Roads.

Yikes Zak. That sucks. But glad you've recovered.

I expect to be back in one way or another... I honestly don't think I could follow doctor's orders and wait if I am feeling good and there's a bike in the garage. Yes, I may be that impulsive, that immature.
; )

I also have this strange sense that it will be weird to get back on this same bike, and not be the same rider I was. Like maybe I would have a sense memory of how it used to be, but lack the ability to make that happen again. Would the bike know? Would I hear it in my dreams, chiding me? "Hey slow poke aren't you the smug ex racer who used to give posers crap for the width of their chicken strips? And now yours are as wide as your shoe?!"

Maybe it is a better idea to safeguard the memories I have with this bike (since I first saw the clay prototype for its front end way back when). Maybe this streetgoing superbike needs a new "super" rider?

Maybe I should get a Ulysses and put softer springs on it for my return?

And then who knows? Maybe the Doc I pick will make me better than I have been for a long time, and I can celebrate with an 1190, which hopefully by the 2014-15
model year will be priced down to near affordable levels.

You got it - add a Uly and keep the hot-rod.

Works for me. : )

I ride my Uly 10x more than Loretta, but when I'm on her... even to the corner store it's a hoot.

If you were closing to Indiana, I would see if you wanted to trade it straight up for my 2008 Husqvarna SM610. A lot like a DRZ, only better =)

I believe the market is pretty strong for sport bikes in general in your neck of the woods and higher for Buells than anywhere else. I would price it for 6k and be talked down to no more than 5500 or so. It will go quickly.
