New Tail for Toothless! (with respect to Alan's son -http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/676001.html?1334356587)

Extra large fender from AmericanSportBike(no more crap in my airbox!), Uly tail and footpegs, CR upper triple clamp with Ducati Streetfighter bars are the main mods that make it my dream touring mount.

Now I am saving for the HepcoBecker racks and Black Journey bags(I have the Buell badges ready to stick on them)

Remus pipe, and the wheels are Alpina tubeless spoke wheels, from Italy, which I ordered from http://www.jcpakbikes.com/(JC is great, and I blew my tax refund on them last year when the Euro was crappy against the dollar - $2200 the pair).

I am on the fence about the blue I chose for the seatframe: it matches my Buell textile jacket - kinda - but still...

What's with the redish fork legs? I like'em! And I'm not a red guy.

And just for laughs I just thought it'd be cool to put an old Vetter Windjammer fairing on that!

Does Alpina make the rims with the bosses to screw in to? I didn't see that in the link.

Ducbsa,
-the Alpina can only be had as a complete built wheel, in the stock 3.5x17 and 5.5x17 sizes, with the bosses already screwed into their rim(they did come with new disc mounting hardware). The only choices you get are the rim and hub colors - various anodized colors (even red, in case you are a I'm-not-a-red-guy guy).

http://www.alpinaraggi.it/en/catalog/50332

Alpina balked at selling just the hubs or just the rims, even though JC tried for me. The rims are actually made by a Germen company - BEHR - but I cannot find any info anywhere on the intertubes about them.

Dennis,
I like to think of it as an X3 Thunderbolt.
The forks are the blacked out XB12STT forks from the Buell accessory catalog for the extra inch of travel, because I wanted a cushy ride over some of these crappy roads, and with the Remus pipe I gained some ground clearance

I have a complete Ully rear end that I was going to fit to my CR ....the only problems though is i would want it to be strong enough for pillion AND full luggage. If you look at the standard Ully setup they share some of the passengers weight direct into the fram by mounting the pillion footrests from there and not from the subframe like other models, this in turn is also one of the mounting supports for the luggage racks. The only brackets i've seen for mounting XB style subframes to the 1125 frame are marked not for pillion use let alone luggage. How did you mount your subframe? I see you have used subframe mounted pillion pegs as well.

Kevmean,

I guess some [more crappy] photos are in order. I wanted a solid mounting too, so I decided I would actually cut the upper mounting tabs on both subframes in such a way that I could take the piece off the leftside and weld it to the rightside so that the right subframe is now a single solid piece that lines up right and locates the whole seat assembly, and uses the upper shock bolt directly. The shock bolt is longer and sticks out on the inside by an inch - to make a mounting spot for a cross-brace(which is hidden in this picture).

right seat frame

Then I welded the tab I cut off from the right side to the left side (or rather had a really good local welder Tig it, and the other side: I just cut the pieces to line them up), like so:

left side subframe

This way I only had to make a bracket for the left side, which I made of steel. There is a triangulating steel brace that you can not see in either photo, because it is hidden by the aluminium shield, that runs from the inside of the left side (the bolt goes through the bracket, the subframe, and the hidden brace) over to the inside of the upper shock mounting truss where it is held onto by a large locknut on the exposed end of a longer shock bolt.

for the footpegs brackets, I drilled and tapped holes in the area where Buell did for the XB12Ss subframes (you can see the thicker part of the casting on the inside your subframes) and I bolted up my brackets on opposite sides so that with the Uly pegs my passenger has more legroom -about 4" further down and forward.

I am going to keep an eye on the welds and such, because I share the loading concerns.

I must say I am glad to see what one looks like and I must say that it looks very comfortable. I have wanted to put a different tail on mine, but wasn't sure. This does help me make a decision. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you Cactusjack,

Hats off to Carbonfibrebob, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/707664.html?1363446780

He did a much nicer job under the seat with electronic and whatnot, and tastefully made the frame wrinkleblack to match the chassis. I would say a much more elegant solution, but Buell guys don't talk that way.

I also used the Mosfet behind the license as you can see in my photo, and the shorai battery because of space.

Also though he doesn't mention it, reversing the passenger footpeg mounts lines the Sportsman rack's lower support up very close to right behind the footpegs. I want to see if he made an attachment...

correction, I see that Carbonfibrebob extended the lower luggage mounts all the way down to the rider footpeg brackets, addressing Kevmean's concern.

Bravo.
