Hi guys, Quick question, I bought some 272 for the rotor nut which cost $50 australian dollars, the 648 is only available in 50ml aswell which is also another friggn $50, I have some 609 lying around and also some blue wurth thread locker, can I use any of these for the sprag clutch bolts or maybe a small amount of 272 or is this a bad idea? Do i have to spend more money on the 648? Just bought special tools and massive torque wrench which does up to 200-900ft lbs, plus new oil, filter this is adding up :-/ Cheers Scott | ||

You will be safe using 272, it is high temp high strength, 648 is also high strength and also requires the same heat to remove. Not sure why rotax calls for 648 anyway as its actually a slip fit adhesive not threadlock, they probably had their reasons but i dont see why as i have read all the details for both and to me it seems 272 would be better option.If your worried you will never get the bolts back out you could use blue 243 which is surface insensitive (for oil) and medium strength. | ||

I bought a 10ml bottle of 648 on Amazon for 10-12 bucks. I work on other folks bikes sometimes so I use the "right stuff". Try to remember to loosen the sprag bolts while the rotor is mounted. Z <edit> another trick, the 32mm deep socket is fairly hard to find. I used a 1-1/4" deep Kobalt socket from Lowes. fit perfect. (Message edited by zac4mac on October 21, 2012) | ||
