Has anyone separated the headlight assembly on a CR? I'm trying to do a headlight mod and I need access behind the clear perspex. Looks like only a couple of clips holding it together, similar to the airbox, but it won't budge. Any tips or pointers before I break something...

Yes, i mounted halo angel eyes on mine. You have to bake the whole assembly in the oven for a number of minutes and the glue will loosen. It worked perfectly. Will try to dig up the instructions...

225F degrees for 8 minutes. Use silicon glue to re-attach the glass.

Interesting Andros, I used boiling water to dismantle an 1125R mirror.

The tricky part is hitting the right temp for the adhesive while staying below the melt-temp for Surlyn(body plastic)

Thanks for your helpful advice. fxdx I will try hitting a deer if baking it fails. Trouble is they aren't too common in Australia, we do have a few john deer's that might give a similar result!

Out of curiosity, what headlight mod are you planning? I've been wanting to open one up and put some nice bi-xenon projectors in, but I haven't found anything that seems to be of decent quality that looks like it would fit.

found some 2 1/2" projectors from trs that have hi/lo bi-zenon bulbs that I might be able to make fit with some swearing. They are 5" long which may be a snag but

225 in the over till it seperates. Wear powder free gloves. Do not touch the lens. If you do, DO NOT attempt to remove any smudges.

Push back together after mod and reheat in oven. Seat the lens back on the houseing after its hot and your good.

Ive done atleast 50 headlights this way.

@Psycobilly - do post up if they fit. I for one would love to have a set that fits without too much modding.

As far as ddm tuning HIDs, I prefer a proper HID retrofit. Too much glare for the people who have to look at HIDs in halogen reflectors, not to mention the wasted light.

GL with the headlght mod. The ddm HIDs are 100x better then the stock lights.

You can use a heat gun also and slowly heat the glue area up until it starts to melt and slowly apply pressure as you pull it apart.

I'm no master at it, I did a set of headlights in my Truck but it worked great.
for the record I just pulled a reflector out, I didn't add halos or projectors.
