Decision making time. Feel free to share the opinions on my next move.

Engine looks good, all mounting bosses are intact, frame and other supports broke instead. Forks are still a maybe, need to disassemble front end to check for straight. Basically needs a frame, and all the stuff forward of rider, head light, both pods completely rebuilt. I would be doing the work and a frame is available out there.

should i buy back from insurance? or take the cash and find something else? 1st brand new bike i've ever had. I need to get something to get back on the track day scene.

Oof, that's a bummer. Especially what is essentially a kind of rare bike.

There are much better bikes for track day/racing shenanigans -any GSXR 600 comes to mind. But if you want an 1125 for the track you want clip-ons and a fairing. Rebuild that one as an R!

How bad is the CR handle bar mount and gauge bracket?

The cash would probably get you an R.

Especially if do the math:

Buy back + parts + labour + time = potential moneypit with no resale value.

well i am going to guess that you are at least mostly ok due to your ability to post. i am glad the wreck didn't kill you(seriously)

that being said in answer to the Q if you're looking for a track bike then the first suggestion of any 'ol gixxer cbr etc would be better suited honestly and far more cost effective. that being said i love my buell and track it as often as i can(which basically means never cuz im broke)

if it is all busted up and you're interested sure it can be rebuilt but i think it's important to point out again that it will be of little to no value when/if you change direction

If you can buy a replacement for the settlement $$, take it. Rebuilt titles are significantly devalued. The only reason to consider buying the wreck would be for parts.

Its an 08 that had the cam chain failure motor was replace through HD under exteneded factory warranty over 6 grand for the whole repair. Now it has a 2010 motor and new harness update. It has flexi glass farings rt 3 exhaust ebr ECM. with engine braking zero gravity wind screen and a new rear tire last week. I may sell due to being unemployed and a wedding in June haven't decided just yet though

well, here it is. I broadsided this 70# buck on the interstate at about 80 mph. I saw the deer about .5 of a second before I hit the thing. Not sure if I were looking in the mirror, checking blind spot, or just day dreaming, but I looked up and bam!!!! trip to er resulted in some xray, ct scan and 1 stitch in the right knee. sent home in my work boots and wifes hot pants.
I was wearing the jacket portion of my fieldsheer 2 piece leather, teknic gauntlet gloves, and blue jeans. Gloves looked the worst although not too bad. Jacket looks pretty good too. Jeans saw litle to no damage. My helmet was an open face Bell custom 500, it saved my life. It had some pretty good rash on the top, front and back. I'm thankful for it's service. I have a little rash on my face, larger patch on my love handle and some minor abrasion to knees.

Now for the bike. It ripped the tripple out of the frame, and destroyed the right side of bike. Frame is the big loser, forks look straight, i'll know tomorrow when i tear them down. I never thought the thing would be worth anything anyway, so salvage title doesn't bother me any. As for the track day ride, whay show up with the same thing everyone else has? what fun is that? I've really enjoyed this bike on the track. I don't really care much for the R either.

am i the only one that thinks an 3/4 helmet on a sportbike is just weird?

as far as im concerned people can wear what they want, but if im going to wear a helmet id prefer if it actually protect all of my face and head... ive road rashed my face once. that was enough. ive also got a helmet with the chin bar shattered... hence the reason i still have a chin!

I had a friend go down on a curve only doing like 30 (tight curve) and he high sided. The entire front of his helmet was completely scraped. I used to wear a 3/4 on my harley for that vintage hooligan look but after that happened, no more. If he had been wearing a 3/4 his face would be gone. Glad to see you're ok man. You should take the engine out and make my life's dream: A bobber with an 1125 engine lmao

The amount of both the settlement offer and the salvage amount would help me decide if I were in your shoes. If you're fortunate, maybe you could buy another CR and keep what you have now. I just got my CR back together after a highlight-film-quality lowside at a track day last year. I was surprised how easily the frame can be removed and replaced. Fortunately for me, I was able to have my brother weld my frame, but you obviously don't have that option. Good luck and keep us posted!

Weld? Haha it tore the triple out the front! The variables are settlement amount and scrap price for sure. I have found some replacements, we'll see how the insurance handles me. The forks have 1 bent leg, the other has .005 bend. Not sure if that will live or not.

As for the helmet, Michigan has no helmet, or limited law. I always wear one. The 3/4 is my choice because I prefer wind in my face. It's why I don't have cars. 12 years of riding and this is my 1st go round. I'm sure it won't be the last. The helmet never moved from its intended position, good fitment. Maybe I was lucky, but in my tumble, I stayed calm and relaxed the whole time.

i know the last bent leg i had on an xb was within factory spec(barely but still) and it still was hard on fork seals. id have to replace the seal in just that leg atleast every season. had enough of that and replaced it.

Re: wind in the face and helmets, I hear you on all that. However I'm so pretty I wanted to keep my face in case of an incident and have been wearing one of the so-called "dual sport" helmets. They are the ones that have a moto-cross helmet size opening but with a face shield. The larger opening greatly lessens the claustrophobic effect of other full face lids, gives you wind and still protects your face. Or just get a moto-cross type and wear shades or whatever. Smashing your face would be a drag I'm sure.

I wear a full-face helmet and have for years. Even doing that, while riding in stifling East Coast heat with the shield open, I caught a bee in the face at 50+ mph. It took almost a week for the swelling to go down and my face to return to normal, so now, even in the worst heat, I only crack the shield about an inch; just enough for a good draft and to vent the heat away.
No more "in the wind" for me, thanks.
