Instead of re writing the story im just gonna copy paste the email i sent Barker. Just looking for opinions on weather or not they should replace it or how i can go about getting another cheap.

I have a Buell 1125 w/ Barker exhaust and the matching ebr ecm.

I love the exhaust and have had it installed for about 1500 miles. I got back from a 50 or so mile ride and my tip cap was gone and the packing and screen tube were hanging half way out. Only being held in by the rear tire which the screen tube worn a gash through the wire on. Almost a new tire. the holes in the exhaust body are all ripped out. I assume the vibrations rattled them right through the body. So I'm already out 200 bucks for a new tire and right now have a empty tipless can for an exhaust. I'm really hoping the exhaust is something you'd warranty and send a new one. Because this is really upsetting and im otherwise more than pleased with my exhaust. I'd gladly send the old one back to you in the box a new one came in if need be. Right now is urgency im concerned about. Its the tail end of the riding season and i cant really ride. Please get back to me soon. Hope to hear from you.

With any riveted glass pack exhaust you will have rivet failures due to pressure beating on the end cap.

I'm waiting for people to start badmouthing Barkers the way they did Jardine.

Both pipes still make some of the best numbers for our bikes.

I've lost bolts on the tip of my CR's HMF exhaust. Didn't realize it until my buddy, who was riding behind me, pointed it out. There was only one bolt left holding it on. I replaced them and used a little red locktight. I've thought it might be worth figuring out a way to also safety wire them.

Glad it didn't eat completely through your tire and cause a crash.

I've not personally had good luck with the aftermarket slip-on systems I've tried. I've not tried them all, for sure, but I've heard of problems with many of them.

The issue with our bikes, especially if they are ridden at track days, is a very high volume of very hot exhaust gas in big pulses. It literally eats away ordinary packing and destroys exhaust hardware in a very short time. If you bump the rev limiter at all it's really hard on the systems.

The EBR race exhaust has held up pretty well for me, as well as the OEM can. I have two seasons on the EBR can and have not repacked. I believe they use stainless steel wool as the packing material. The EBR exhaust isn't realistic for street use, IMHO, and the stock can weighs a ton. Not a lot of good options for our bikes, unfortunately.

With one exhaust maker I did testing for I could blow up the cans in 5 or so track days and when we finally got that fixed so the can was mostly durable, the mid-pipe blew out!

Our bikes are hard on kit...

I do feel slightly at fault i noticed last week that the tip was a bit loose. But very lil. I plan to tear down the bike for paint this winter and told myself id address it then since its really a month for me.
I havent lost faith in Barker it is a good exhaust and i do realize how hard it is to make a can for our bikes. Especially for those of us that can really get on them and use those higher rpms.

The Barker bracket on my CR makes the D&D bracket on my S1 look delicate

I lost the first tip of my Barker's exhaust going down the road. My quiet core just fell apart the other day and was rattling around inside the muffler.

My Barker failed after about 1000 miles or so BUT Tim was superb, one of the best ever customer service exoeriences I have had. He shipped me a complete new can out the very next day on overseas expedited mail and I had it in the UK 3 days after I e-mailed.
The replacement was even in black (which wasn't available when I ordered my original).
There was a "bad batch" right at the begining of the production run, but it was a small batch and only related to a sub-std packing material.

Coming back from Germany last month my mate's Supertapp end can lost it's tail cap and all of the discs right in front of me as it had vibrated loose on the run - unfortunately it happens on big twins.

Regular rivet checks are pretty essential for cans held like that - once they become loose they will elongate the holes and make it worse very quickly. Once elongated those holes need a larger rivet in them to make sure they're secure..

interesting take Sprinst, as a part of every ride my bike gets looked over. when i have had aftermarket anything on any vehicle those parts have always gotten a closer look.

Pre-flight inspections are a handy habit to form, as are weekly once-overs. Most material packed exhausts have a maintenance cycle, I'd normally expect to get a couple of thosand miles per re-pack (depending in what it's packed with).

Once a week I wander around the bike checking the tight things are still tight and that the loose things can still move freely.

It's a rarityt hat i find anything, but it's also a good time for me to clean the "hard to get to" places.}

As a former bicycle mechanic, I know and trust my work and equipment. If I've installed or repaired something, I know I did it right. Do I get it wrong occasionally? Sure, but it's rare.

I don't preflight it and if an issue develops I would typically hear or feel and issue.

Now, maybe that's foolish, maybe not. YMMV

For me, 1500 miles would be 3 or 4 rides, so it's not much.

trust and verify. dad was a jet mech for the USN and taught me preflight so that's my habit. my vehicles rarely have ever left me stranded. when they have it was usually me being stupid or something that a routine preflight wouldn't have caught.
