Anybody bolt up the new rotor and mounting kit from EBR? I followed the instructions to the letter, but no longer floats on the springs. It looks and feels bottomed out. Is this normal? Mounting kit has the copper washers. | ||

...And I think you're supposed to pitch the springs. No float gives a better heat-sink connection to the wheel, and helps cut warpage. | ||

Discard all of the OEM mounting hardware. | ||

It will probably still feel like it doesn't float. The new mounting approach only leaves around .015 or so for the rotor to float, and it's held against the wheel with disc springs. The OEM stuff is pretty bad honestly. The EBR kit is a really significant improvement. | ||

But did you remove the springs like you're supposed to? You use all the new hardware, and NONE of the old. This is all that goes in, and the order in which it gets installed:  | ||

Yep. Got that sheet with the kit. Unbelievable change in braking. I put the Acossato(?) MC on over the winter, but the biggest improvement was the rotor I just installed. Switched from EBC racing to Ferrodo racing pads. That could be part of it. Jdugger, what kind of pads are you running? I like the EBC's but they feel a bit more "wooden" compared to the Ferrodo. Mid-Ohio was a success. New best lap time. Don't know if it was the brakes or the new Power Cup "VA" front tire. A little tough to get used to, but turn in is very quick. | ||

CF, IMHO: EBC < Performance Friction < Ferodo X < Nissin 2015 < Vesrah XX I love the bite of the Vesrah, but they don't last. The Nissin wear really well and are the best compromise of performance to wear, IMHO. One of the biggest things that helps the brake system on these bikes and pad wear is getting the heat out as best as possible. The rotor and mounting kit help a ton. So will removing the pad retaining clips from the caliper so more air can get through there. Try the Nissins. They are expensive, but last 3x as long as the EBC, in my experience, so they are actually a lower cost per lap. | ||

Check out the EBR website. It's the only one they offer now. Same as what is on the new 1190RS. You have to buy the mounting kit as well. Money well spent. My old rotor was every color imaginable. I'm getting no fade at all now. |
