i have come by an icon overlord leather jacket and whilst i'm out here in florida i'm thinking whether to buy some trousers as well, i've looked at the icon website but no luck, what trousers will fit with this jacket, it has the smaller sized teeth on the zip, i know arlen ness (uk anyway) use the larger teeth zip,
i'm looking for something with knee sliders for track and road use
cheers guys

well first of all where in florida are you? second the options for trackable pants with the icon jacket is wide open as you'll have to have the zip from one sewn to the other or you can try and source a pair of the overlord pants that match

My experience is, it's best to buy matching trousers with jacket. Often, the zippers will not want to fit even if they are the correct direction, etc. You can mix and match jackets and pants as long as they're from the same manufacturer.

I have had better luck matching TEXTILE pants with leather jacket from difference brands as long as I'm willing to forego zipping them together. This will not work at the track though.

boogieman i'm in davenport
i looked at the overlord trousers but they don't have kneesliders?
i really just wnted to know if anyone has one of these jackets and what trousers they have, i really can't be bothered with getting the zip sewn onto something else, was hoping there was something that would match straight up

Gotcha. Then the answer is most likely a firm no. I've not seen leathers from company A match up to those from company B

Albert, I live in Lake Alfred, which is maybe 10 miles or so from Davenport. It is entirely possible to find a good bit of excellent riding (for this part of the world anyway) very near to where you are.

I would be pleased to show you around.

Alan, jackets sometimes come with the other half of a matching zip already attached. You can then sew it onto the trousers you buy. Just don't try welding it on

Whatever you buy, make sure it's leather. The textile stuff at best wears through quickly, and at worst, melts into your skin creating permanent scars.

Leather is just better.

Mr Dugger, I've just had this discussion on UKBEG. I think you're entirely correct

I ask textile wearers, 'If you knew you were going to crash, would you wear textile or quality leather?'

Sweating is an irritation, skin and bone abrasion a lot worse

We have a slide in our Level-1 trackday curriculum at the trackdays I teach at showing the protection performance of various materials like jeans, nylon, cordura, kevlar and leather.

It's pretty sobering -- the nylon stuff wears through in surprisingly little distance (less than 20 feet), and melting into your skin is the bonus.

Kevlar is better, but the abrasions on it also get hot and even though the material doesn't melt so easily like Nylon, it causes severe burns.

Leather does none of this, and in really hot weather perf leather is actually cooler because it insulates you from the hotter outside temps vs. the cooling sweat evaporation provides your body. As long as you are moving, of course.

Textile stuff (like the Aerostich stuff) is meant to be worn over clothing, not against bare skin, so the point is moot. The late, lamented "Cycle Magazine" did a "drag test" of several kinds of material and found that competition weight leather is indeed the most protective, but that nylon Cordura was surprisingly close. Kevlar did worse, as the individual fibers tended to tear more easily over the road aggregates whereas the Cordura fibers would stretch and snap over them.

Denim was determined to be completely useless, wearing completely through in about a foot or less. "Fashion grade" leather was not much better. Perforated leather didn't exist back then but based on my perforated Vanson jacket, I wonder how much safer it would be over a properly designed mesh jacket. The leather is already splitting around all the joint areas from the flexing. NOT good.

The Devil is in the details Albert...here's a site I have used over the years - the owners give their opinion of the product(s) ( scroll down to the two cents area) the link is for some leather pants on closeout....drive around the site for some other choices - fair prices - fast delivery - easy returns - good stuff:

http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/closeouts/lea ther_suits_jackets_and_pants/fieldsheer/sport_2_le ather_motorcycle_pants.html

enjoy Florida (it's flat..watch out for the 'gators) the heat is ON HIGH out here in the SWest!

an old time trick we used to do dirt tracking in the midwest - often the leather pants came with a nylon mesh lining - it would stick to your sweaty skin - we would cut it out - yes I know the leather would be op against your skin - but the leather would absorb some of the sweat of a hot and humid Ohio night....making it much more comfortable/cooler

Concur with perforated leather - - my set of Vanson perforated leather / textile two piece suit (their Super Motard version) is great on the rare 90 degree days out here. Much cooler than the textile suit with zippered vents that I usually wear.

Knee sliders for street use in Florida ? ? C'mon ! ! ! Best curves in that state are the freeway on ramps ! ! !

I had "used leather track pants" saved in my ebay account to notify me when an item became available. It was probably 6 months before I came across a Rocket pair in my size with knee pucks for $200. They don't zip up to my Icon Motorhead jacket but they work alright.

Don't even bother with two piece for the track, especially not Icon crap. I scored a one piece Teknic on ebay for about 275...don't halfass that.

To answer your question, Icon crap is made in the Korean factory that HD crap (Go America!) is made in. So theoretically, overpriced shoddily made HD pants should zip right to that overrated shoddily made Icon jacket, as they were both made by the same children in the same sweatshop. There are other brands made there as well, but i can't think of them. Icon & HD (American Made!!!)were the big names.

Seriously.
