> And that will stop wheel bearing failure and the side stand spring falling off? seriously?

Nothing will stop your whining, no.

Get a different bike. This one isn't for you.

^ this.

Sometimes you have a lemon. Sometimes it's just perception, but if he can't shake the feeling he's riding a POS, he needs to just sell it and move on with life.

I hate having a vehicle I don't trust}

The good old standby, when debate fails, just make the attack personal, because that fixes everything.
One final bit of whining, as of today add failed steering head bearings. This bike is a total lemon.

I don't doubt for a second you got a "friday" bike, but the "attack" isn't personal -- I just think you bought the wrong bike, and the worst of the news is you got a bad instance of it and so it's a double-whammy.

Either way, you are long past the "chalk up a loss" point, and need to make a change.

For what it's worth, I've not owned a bike in the last 5 years I *didn't* have the replace the steering head bearings in. The Buell system is actually one of the best IMHO, since they are easy to change!

Steering head bearings are a very common "longer term" service item. Riding any bike in the rain will make everything on them wear faster, btw.

Sorry to frequently post on this, but it is perplexing to me that you hate the bike so much yet you havent gotten rid of it and youre a registered member of a Buell enthusiast forum. The folks on this thread have been very polite with you thus far, so I wouldnt keep saying how bad the bike is. Do you want to keep the bike? Are you here for help with it? Can we assist you? Otherwise I would just part it out to members here. You could probably make some money.

I'll take a stab at it:

he's financially upside or otherwise unable to change bikes

since he's stuck with a POS (real or perceived, doesn't matter), can't replace it, can't get it fixed, he wants to share the pain and is looking for validation.

I would probably feel the same if I were stuck with something I paid good money for and it just keeps breaking and cost me money, but I couldn't get rid of it.

Sprintst is closest, I do not hate the bike, I am very frustrated and angry with HD corporate though, when the bike is running with no problems it is up there with my all time favourites but mine has been non stop problems, and the reason I come here is to learn, bike has just run out of warranty so repairs and maintenance are now down to me.

Stimbrell, just fix the issues then. Wheel bearings and steering head bearings are VERY easy to fix. Yes, it's easy for me to say this since mine has been very good to me. However, riding in rain is something I rarely do (I live in southern California where rain is rare). Maybe this is why my bearings has held up? Don't know.

The most recent issue I had was a failed fork seal. It was a bit inconvenient has I had to remove the fork tubes and take it to a reputable shop, 20 miles away. Then I had to drive my car (yes it's a pain) for a week until my forks got fixed. It's always going to be a hassle to fix something, however I believe once you get these issues fixed, the bike will be reliable for you. The alternative is to replace the bike with something that is more reliable but at a price. A lot of folks feel replacing is better than fixing but this is not always the cost savings that it seems to be. Although it may "buy" you peace of mind. Choose whichever works for you and your bank account.

Honestly, this may make the biggest difference in your long-term ability to make peace with the bike and actually enjoy it.

The kick stand switch should have never stranded you, for example. That's a $2 fix probably half the people on this board have had to do on the side of the road on any number of different bike models.

Part of this whole sport bike experience is becoming one with the machine, and knowing something about keeping it in good shape. If you ride a lot, unless you are wealthy, you end up having to do most of your work, anyway, on any brand. That's because sport bikes tend to make wear parts out of things other types of bikes would never have issues with. Rotors, bearings, calipers, drive trains, clutch plates... the list goes on.

If there's a legitimate complaint about these bikes, you are right to say that not only did HD abandon you, but their dealer network is about the most inept bunch of fools one could imagine when it comes to sportbikes. Who knows... maybe half your issues are a bonehead tech at the dealer that shouldn't pull his own pud much less turn a wrench.

You won't learn much here with statements like "the bike is fundamentally flawed" and constant bitching. I get that you got a really raw deal. But, we can help you get the most of what you are left with, and it starts by acknowledging you are going to have to put some elbow grease into this thing and probably change your riding habits -- for example, on the motor way, run the motor between 6k and 7k, and you are unlikely to have stator problems. Trust me, the motor doesn't mind -- I do it for endless hours on end (and worse) to mine.

Honestly, you could use this opportunity to upgrade to a ceramic bearing on the drive side and you probably wouldn't have to service that bearing again for the life of the bike...

it's little stuff like that you learn when you do your own work, and have pride in your ride because you are the reason it runs at all.

Bored now, Listening to crap like
"Part of this whole sport bike experience is becoming one with the machine", and "knowing something about keeping it in good shape" when I have stopped laughing I just must become "one with the machine" Jesus Christ. What crap.
Out of here.

Wheel and steering head bearings are considered consumables on motorcycles.

Forks and springs should be serviced annually.

Do the servicewriters/salesman upsell in your area?

Just because somebody says you need it....

100% chance y'all don't actually ride your bikes.

Forks and seals often don't even make a single season. The oil shears and you loose damping.

Happens on all bikes ridden hard.

I do most of my own work... don't need a service writer.
