i broke in my first engine per the buell manual, my 2nd engine per giving it hell from day 1...funny thing

A) during first oil change the first engine had significantly more metal in the oil, the 2nd had almost none after break in.

B) my first engine went at 12k miles...my 2nd one has over 14k and going strong.

C) first engine was all HD syn. the 2nd is all amsoil -except after the valve job the stealership put that crap back in it after i said not to.

so FWIW

Jake

I always just ride normally, but gradually raising revs keeping it all smooth, make sure you go through the entire rev range, keeping off the limiter though, change oil after 500 miles, then your good to go.

IMO, but no doubt this will raise a debate : )

My ZX6r came out the crate got 100 miles on it, changed oil, and hit the track. was fine and as the miles ticked up more and mpre power came, sold it with 18k on it, never missed a beat.

This is how I'd do mine the 2nd time around. Skip to 3:37

Oh yeah, I'd also use Amsoil from day one. Drop the stock oil as soon as it's home, pour in the good stuff.

Yup ride normal but don't abuse or too much stress.

No WOT.
Limit engine braking.
Vary engine speeds.
Do rev it up after 250 miles.
Change Oil/filter after 600 miles.

I did this on my XB12R Firebolt and that bike did not burn any oil at 30k miles.
