So, we had a nice day today. I got a bunch of stuff done outside the new house - dusk-to-dawn lights that weren't working, motion sensors, clean a garden shed and build a ramp to get the mowers in...got it all done, didn't do any welding with the electrical, didn't fall off the ladder...so I figured I'd reward myself and wash the S1W and the CR. I got caught in the rain on the S1W the other day and it looked like CRAP, and the CR just needed some attention (black is NEVER clean). Wash 'em, go to put fuel in the CR...and no matter which way I flip the switch, I only have left turn signals. Guess I'll let it dry real good and try again tomorrow. I'm guessing water in the switch...water in the cluster connections couldn't cause it, could it? I'm 99.9% sure I got the boot back on the plug the right way when I did the HID install... | ||

Should be good once dry, Joe. Several owners have had issues with the signals after washing. Try flushing with ethanol - Or drink the ethanol and wait for the switch to dry.  Z | ||

Same here, wash my bike and the left turn signal likes to stay on ALL THE TIME, even in the off position, still blinking left. Just have to let it dry out and it will be fine. | ||

at the HD/Buell dealership i used to work at - we had problems when the porters (the bike washer kids) would use the hose on/around the controls (that was on HD models, but the concept's the same). After we taught them how not to spray down the gauge cluster or the hand controls, i can't recall a single problem. | ||

Yep, working fine now. Knew it would, just patting myself on the back for finding a *reason* not to wash them (other than just being lazy, that is). | ||

I use a newspaper bag and a piece of wire to keep the switch assembly dry when washing. | ||

Every time I used to wash my x1, the signals would not work at all until it was dry. I finally packed the relay terminals with dielectric grease and have never had a problem since. | ||

I've never had that problem and I wash mine often. I just NEVER hose down the controls on the handlebars. It may get splashed with water but NEVER hosed down. The instrument panel gets splashed but that's it. Kind of like when it rains and the gauge cluster just gets drops of water. | ||

Don't worry, I had the garage door closed so the Uly couldn't see the carnage  Contrary to my Uly-keeping-habits..I do actually keep the tubers and the CR clean. Like my little Shelby cars - they're nice. I keep 'em nice. My Jeeps? The Uly? It'll rain eventually...lol I also discovered an AWESOME cleaner at work. They use it on RV's all the time - it's called Reliable. I have no idea whats in it, but I spritzed the (grungy nasty) rear wheel on the CR with it today, walked five feet to get a hose, turned around, and there was a pool of grimy nasty black water spreading from the wheel...and the wheel was Villain Black again! And HOLY CRAP - there's a red stripe on it?? Rinsed, no wipe, looks good. I gotta get a keg of that stuff up at the house! |
