I've been putting off the LFL problem i've been having since i bought the bike brand new back in late 2009, and finally decided that i wanted it fixed.

I know it's the fuel sensor, so it needs a new pump, and just wondering if they are back ordered, and about how long i should expect the bike to be at the dealership. I just hope they dont look at the bike and say "oh, buell, we'll put that one on the back burner and not worry about it."

I've already had the cluster replaced due to a slipped tach needle, and the LFL problem got worse since then. It's almost completely opposite of what it's suppose to do. When there is gas in the tank, the LFL is on, and when the light SHOULD be coming on, it go out.

Getting the fuel pump is not the hard part. The hard part is swapping it out.
The frame has to be removed to swap the fuel pump.

I would just put up with the LFL as long as the pump is working properly.

I'm pretty sure you dont have to drop the frame, service manual says all you got to do is drop the swingarm to get at the pump. I figured i could do it in 4 hours from start to finish.

Remove seat
Purge system of gas
disconnect battery
Drain fuel
Remove rear wheel assembly (pretty sure i could get away with just undoing the rear shock and winging it down to get at the pump)
remove rear swing arm
remove the fuel pump cover
disconnect the fuel line
remove retaining ring
remove fuel pump
replace as required

Thats ALL the steps in the service manual to pull it, but shortened up.

Plus, it's warranty work, and the weather doesnt look like its going to be warm enough, or clear enough out to ride for awhile yet.

I just wanted to know if pumps are on back order and how long is the wait

I'd call Biggs in the morning and ask them.

By the way, they have an 2008 1125r over there. Maybe you could get that as a rental if the weather breaks while your waiting for your bike to return

When I RR'd my Firebolt fuel pump, I just had to lower the swing arm enough to get the necessary clearance to pull the fuel pump out. I don't know if this can be done on the 1125R

Forgot to update my location, i'm living back in Iowa now. There have been a few days when it gets in the low 40's and i went for a few rides.

And the way they do their rentals at Bigg's, you have to put a $2,000 deposit on the rental, EVEN if your bike is in there for service.

Don't get me wrong, i LOVED Bigg's. They are still the best dealership to service my bike than anywhere else i've found.

I figured it would be as easy as just lowering the swingarm down, but i dont want to pay $300 for a new pump when i can get one put in it for free. If they would order the part and let me put it in, i would do it in a heartbeat, but HD would NEVER let warranty work happen that way.....even though i probably know how to work on my bike better than ANY of them do.

Oh well...

My Firebolt FP had a damaged wiring harness. In Buell's Service Manual, it specified inspecint/testing the pump to see what is wrong. I was able to buy the replacement wiring harness with updated protective sleeve and replace that ($75 from dealer). Thus, I was able to save the whole pump.

I don't know if something similar can be done to your pump as opposed to replacing the whole thing. Replacing the whole thing is usually what the warranty work will do when just one part can be fixed.

However, I don't know enough about the 1125R pump to know for sure.

I picked one up used from another BadWeBber a few months ago.
Loretta's pump has been losing pressure every now and then.

If all that's wrong with yours is the LFL/CEL issue and it's not firmware, I have a (so far untested) idea for a non-invasive fix.

Pull the pump connector apart, it's a 4-wire connector attached to the crossbar on the subframe under the rider seat, and stick some small wire, like telephone wire, inside pins 1 and 4.
Plug the connector back together and attach wires to a 2k pot(variable resistor) and adjust until you pull the resistance back down to an 800-1400 Ohm spread.

I may be trying it soon myself, as I've seen the LFL/CEL a couple of times recently.
Theoretically sound, just need to verify "real world".

Does anyone have a confirmation on the exact steps for removing and replacing the fuel pump as listed above by Juniorkirk.

Adamec Harley in Jacksonville gave me a $1100 estimate on removing and replacing the FP on my 08. I would rather do it myself if possible.

If I had to use the above directions I would say forget it and let HD do it. That is to much for my skill level. If I can just wing it and get it in I'm willing to try.
