I know she's not much but she's new to me, so i had to share. 08 with 4K on her, she's not perfect but she makes me smile. Looks like she's been laid down on the right side but not too bad.
Third buell i've owned, but been 3 years without. It is SO good to be back in the saddle again. And this bike makes me glad to be a Buell patron.

EBR ECM and de-noid plug on the way. Got a few plans for this jewel.

What do you mean you know she's not much?!?!?! She's BEAUTIFUL!!

Congrats on the bike, Man! Nothing to be ashamed of there...After all, you did get the most awesome 2008 model!

I LOVE my bike, and would not trade it for the world. I regularly get compliments on how cool it is, and mine looks like crap compared to yours!

thanks, i spent about 4 hours detailing it today.
What do you guys use for the swirls in the plastic? seems like i used to use polishing compound and a buffer. but it's been a minute.

Your frame looks unusually satin-y. What did you use on it?

pretty sure you don't HAVE TO de-niod with the E B R ECM, unless you just wanna take it off and use the solenoid for some thing else.
it's not wrong to do it, just that you don't have to.

For frame and wheels, I use McGuires Interior/Exterior trim compound. Spray on a wet towel, wipe on. It makes satin finish components, rubber/vinyl/plastic shiny again.

Duphuckincati, i was playing around with the neverdull. The oil in never dull really glosses it up but you have to do a thorough job wiping it off or it leaves white streaks.
I think some kind of armorall or harley gloss would do about the same thing, in small quantities and wiped-dry.

I still don't understand the purpose of the active intake. From what i've read, when you slam on the throttle it acts like a choke and restricts airflow?

I also have a service manual and parts manual en route to my house. Hopefully that will shed some light.

Got off work early today and hit the road, i just moved recently so i had to do some riding to find a nice curvy road. but i found one! : ) This bike is a blast! (no, it's an 1125r!)

Well, you know no matter how much you have you still want more. Debating whether i should buy those crower cams... wish the website had more specs, maybe a dyno chart.

hey thanks for the support guys. I miss the good ol' days of working at an HD/Buell dealership, of living this stuff and being around fellow Buell enthusiasts.

from what i understand; it's an EPA thing. i and most others experienced it in 3rd gear, in the middle of the RPM range.

IIRC the EBR ecm will not activate the solenoid, but i'd have to re-read the isntrution sheet to be sure.

but it sounds like you've got the essentails.
the only things i can say would be to get some axle sliders, frame pucks, engine pucks and keep and eye on your waterpump and clutch weep holes

Not only does the EBR ECM not fire the solenoid, it won't throw a code if you disconnect it.
It was put there for EPA noise regs to pass a certain test.
If you go WFO at 4850 rpm in 3rd gear, it closes the throttle so the bike is very quiet as it goes by the microphone.
Sucks if you're right there and try to pass a truck...

Hope you enjoy the ride.

Zack

Zac,

Does that mean that if you keep it above 4850 rpm the 'noid will never kick in?

What Zac is describing could be thought of as similar to a notch filter in the intake's frequency response. The active intake solenoid was designed to be triggered to diminish exhaust noise under the exact set of circumstances that are specified by the EPA noise test. Meet those criteria and the intake solenoid goes active. Avoid those criteria and it doesn't.

Unfortunately, the EPA test is designed to emulate the kind of circumstances in which the bike is most likely to be noisy and offensive to other drivers -- when passing at highway speed with WFO throttle. The EPA noise test was designed to measure noise under these conditions, and the active intake solenoid was designed to recognize conditions that could represent an EPA noise test, and to make the bike quiet and appear compliant.

The intake solenoid is a PITA. Get the resistor plug and rip it out.

I know you guys are just dying to read this stuff, and since the question keeps coming up, here are the EPA noise regs for Motorcycles:

You will have a lighter throttle feel if you physically remove the solenoid setup as well.

I've heard this before, but it wasn't the case for me. Come check out my bikes, one has the 'noid, one doesn't, both feel the exact same. I have nearly 20k miles on each of them, and I still can't tell the difference. I think there may be some that have had theirs improperly installed tugging on the throttle cables.

That said, take it out next time you are under the airbox, ain't hard to do. I'm just too lazy to do it.

What I thought was interesting about the Acceleration Test in Appendix I was the way they measure noise. the test calls for the driver to be travelling at highway speed, in the highest gear, and then select WFO throttle, and maintain WFO until the bike reaches it's RPM limits.

Hmmm. If I read that correctly, then the EPA test conditions would only apply in 6th gear. You'd think that they ECM would check to see what gear you're in, and not activate under WFO in 3rd gear because that's not part of the EPA test conditions.

Another thing that I thought was interesting was that the EPA compliant noise reduction system only has to remain operational/under warranty during the first year of ownership. You can't tamper with it, but there seems to be no penalty for anyone if it stops working all by itself after 12 months.
