I ran the HMF slip on with the stock ecm and it ran OK, they say you do lose a little midrange torque, but you almost have to run it on a dyno to notice the difference.
When used in conjunction with the race ecm, that makes all the difference in the way the bike runs. Smoother, cooler, and noticeably snappier performance.
One word of warning, though. Almost any aftermarket slip on exhaust is going to be loud, so do your research and see what's available with a silencer insert unless you have neighbors that don't care about being woke up at 5:00 AM by you starting your bike.

I have the HMF with the matching Erik Buell Racing ECM on my bike and it has completely changed how smooth the bike runs. I originally ran the HMF with the Erik Buell Racing ECM that was tuned for a stock exhaust and the bike ran good but wasn't quite right. Since having the ECM reflashed to match the exhaust I wish the bike would have come this way from the factory. The HMF is loud but in my opinion sounds amazing. I let a friend ride my bike while I rode his and I couldn't even hear his bike running while we were riding side by side. I work every shift and have not had one complaint yet from any neighbors. I am very aware though of the loudness and kill the bike as soon as I get in the driveway and walk it down to the street in the morning, start it and ride it down the block to the first corner where I let it idle for a few seconds before I continue on my way. Sorry for the long read! My advice is to save up and get the matching ECM as you will not believe the way the bike runs!!

Have you thought about the Barker exhaust? Thats what I have with the Erik Buell Racing ECM tuned for it and it made a huge difference in how the bike ran and idled. It is a lot louder than stock even with the mid silencer, but my neighbors never complained. I suggest saving for a bit and do the ECM, exhaust, and K&N all at the same time for whichever exhaust you decide to go with.

If I were forced to pick between the 2, I'd recommend the HMF.

Otherwise, I'd build one that makes more power than either one.

Get a race ecm, regardless of the pipe you get, some need a lot more fuel than others.

I got and RT3 from Dean along with the Erik Buell Racing ECM and would tell any anyone to get one.

It sounds amazing its LOUD but not excessive and this is coming form a guy with an 02 Cyclone and full D&D Race setup. The 1125r with an RT3 is just sick.

I felt pretty good buying the pipe form Dean because if a guy can hand make pipes out of his garage and get Erik to make and ECU for them he is doing something right.

If you get an RT3 you wont regret it. You may just have to wait a little bit for it because they are in demand.

Buy anything but a D&D, and whatever you get, buy the ECM.

Do yourself a favor for the $35.00 or so dollars, send the ECM in for the proper reflash and it will be a completely different bike!
