I did a 3000mile round trip to Colo this past summer and my big stator failure plan was to turn off my headlights (I installed a switch) and buy a car battery. Mount the battery to pillon and limp it home. I also carried a new OEM R/R. other than those concerns I think the 1125 platform is pretty solid for long distance riding without worry | ||

Thanks for the feedback everyone. As far as luggage, I'm thinking of getting the Cortech soft bags. I already have the Buell pillion bag, and so was thinking of using that in combination with the two Cortech saddlebags instead of getting the 3 piece Cortech saddlebag/tailbag combination. | ||

My wife and I did a long trip last summer (4200 KMs - 10 days), I have the Coretech soft bags and they worked great. I did get the tail bag as well; but it's a bit fussy on the 1125, but it worked fine. She has a Yamaha FZ-6 and they fit really well. We went from the interior of British Columbia down to the Redwoods in California. I use the tail bag almost daily on it's own to commute to and from work. | ||

I did a couple of 3000 mile trips on Loretta(1125R) in 2008. A cheap set of Oxford First Time panniers and a T-Bags roll bag on the pillion carried all I needed both trips. Second trip was more comfortable with Uly pegs. I laid down on the airbox a lot, even dozed off once, very comfy. Now I have a Uly too for trips, hard luggage etc.  Z | ||

Have fun on the CR. When my rear wheel bearings went, there was not growling or other signs of failure, they just failed. My symptoms were loud thumping noises while on decel. As for long trips, it a comfy ride. I have the high rise bars on my bike, and it's more comfortable than my V-Star on long tips. As for Bags, I have a tail bag from Motopack tail bag that works great, at a fraction of the cost anything else. Check out http://www.redlinemotoparts.com/. I hope this helps | ||

I've done a few trips. Insulate the bottom of the seat so your jewels don't fry. Brake fluid in case the clutch leaks, mines leaking internally. Enough tools to do anything you need to do. Socket for the axle, extra allan, torx for the ones not in the tool kit. A GOOD tire. If it won't fit in the tail and tank bags it's not important. Buddy of mine has the best method. He wears old clothes and chunks them after using them. There is always a WalMart. | ||

It's 1600 miles round trip. I've already done an iron butt on my S3T (which I really, really wish I had back), so I've done some LD riding, but with some of the issues being raised one wonders... | ||

#1 recomendation is to check the oil level every other fuel fill. The long term rpm levels can consume a little oil and it doesnt take much to hit the low level. | ||
