Interesting, I thought Buells were the only bikes to have the fan runs after the bike is off feature. What other manufacturers have that?

At least some years of the Yamaha R6 and Honda CBR600RR for sure if you get them hot enough.

My VFR800 will run the fan after shut off if it gets hot enough....like 200+ F of coolant Temp. My Hayabusa would do that too.

But it was rare that it got up that high unless I was riding through heavy traffic on a very hot day.

Their fans were at least half as loud as the Buell's.

When you shut the bike off the steel stock can will hold the heat WAY longer than say an aluminum can for sure. The air flow would be better all around and this may also aid in killing the clutch seals as well.

It a crock pot. It's slow cooking. A little here a little there. 4k miles later your light comes on!

It's a theory that doesn't fit the facts.

Guard_rail - I have been thinking about this, the fact that operating temperatures generally go down with an aftermarket muffler seems to confirm your theory to some degree.

Many people have reported here that their bikes run cooler with their aftermarket exhausts regardless of brand. Heat is the issue right?

Please link me to a post where someone has said changing the exhaust lowered their temperatures.

I have seen no coolant temperature difference between stock and aftermarket exhausts on mine. The lower temperature is most likely due to changing the ECM or the weather.

Also like I said before, my stator life was about the same with stock and with aftermarket exhausts. I personally think you guys are barking up the wrong tree with this one.

If the stock exhaust was a major contributor to stators frying I think that there would be cases of '08s then with fried stators. I understand that '09 stators generate more heat than '08s but if the stock exhaust was to cook the stator after the bike turns off then '08s would be experiencing the same problems.

I'm willing to bet the cooler OpTemp is more related to a pipe specific tune, not the pipe.
Put an Erik Buell Racing ECM on a stock can and the bike will ALSO run cooler.

Get your cause and effect sync'd properly.

I'm a little lost here,

the oil cooler sit in front of the stator cover, the exhaust is not really in front of it, it is UNDER the engine and when still it will shed some heat,

the stator failures IMO are caused by internal heating of the stator, by current drawn thru it.

I would like the body work and radiators to fit to the 1125 R/CR and an ecm

Fellow buellers. I'm not saying my theory is the end all end all. Only a small part. It's all relative.

The sum of the causes is greater than the whole!!!

Anything to make the bike run cooler is a plus because the FACT is if the CAN is cool it cooks even slower and if the CAN is gone than that's even better. This is not an isolated cause. It's a global engine issue!!!! Ebr ECM, MOSFET VR, exhaust, oil jetting and choice of oil.

But thats just MHO

Guard_rail - The OEM muffler does wrap itself around the engine. From an Air Cooled standpoint you are on target.

So , just what does the stator and muffler of an 1125 have to do with the stator and muffler of an Erik Buell Racing 1190RS?

I don't get it.

Mother of all hijacked threads. Just when I think I might get to read something cool about the 1190rs, it's just a bunch of dudes bitching about stators...again. Don't you have a subforum for that now?

I agree with 2kx1. Really poor form to jack this thread into theorizing about 2009 1125 stator issue.

Back to 1190 please.

I just wanna ride one. Sitting on it was just a tease.

Erik had some ...energetic ; ) things to say about riding the '90 in Jersey. So much fun watching him talk about it...he's like a (big) kid in a (super-cool) candy store. I get Willy Wonka images when I see him light up! (no, not the Johnny Depp Wonka...the "real" one, Gene Wilder!)

I can't wait for a chance to try one out...
