Hi All,
I have an intermittent problem with my speedo displaying zero.

Looking at previous posts – it’s not unheard of but I wondered if there was a general consensus of opinion of a fix.

The speedo & gear selector usually spring back into life when the clutch is held in.
Have tried cleaning VSS but to no avail.

Bike still under warranty.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Mine seems to do it occasionally when it's H-O-T HOT. I haven't bothered chasing it down yet though - not a big enough issue for me. Might take a swing at it next service interval...

mine does it occasionally, seems like when i don't change gear positively enough, when pottering around town, usually comes back after a few mins or a stop start

It's most likely the VSS

It's the speed sensor. Mine went out before 500 mi. on the odo. After the warranty covered fix, it hasn't done it again (3000 mi. currently).

Is there a part number for the VSS?

Mine does this as well when the temps get up there >95ºF. Mine comes back after I've been moving for a while, but it also goes out when the brake light fuse pops. Check that as well (it's to let you know the brake light is out).

Just got done with a long drawn out process of fixing the same problem under warranty. After a new vss and a new instrument cluster still no luck. Finally they put in a new vss and realized the first replacement was faulty as well. My money is on the vss.

What is the VSS? My bike is doing the same thing and they are going to replace the cluster because that's what they think it is.

The problem is mine will only go out when the rpms are above 5000, and it is a certain temp out. Usually about 86 outside air temp. I haven't narrowed it down to the bikes temp yet.

Mine would zero out while riding and would not come back no matter what. When I took the bike in they tried changing the ecu and that made it worse. Then they wanted to change the speedo out but it was on back order so I took the bike home. Ended up wrecking and braking the front stay bracket so when changing that and putting a new one on I blew off the pins and haven't had the problem sence.
