Peggy is an '09 R and had a new ststor installed last May.A couple of weeks ago, after sitting for some time,I had to jump start her and when I got on the road the volts briefly went to 13 but then went back down to 12.1 and stayed there even at cruising speed. When I got back to the camp ground the volts dropped to 11 from the trip off the road to my trailer spot(about 45 seconds).I put a charger on the battery and took her for a ride again. The volts stayed in the high 13's to even 14.3 until the fans kicked in and then as long as I am cruising I am OK but as soon as I hit traffick or a light I can watch the volts fall about 1/10 per second until it reaches about 12 volts. If I get back out on the road it will charge back up and really quickly if the fans kick off.I am thinking it is not the stator but the battery.I think it was just too dead for the stator to recharge it when I jumped it and after the charging the stator did fine but when the RPMs get slow and the harness upgrade kicks in the battery just starts to die and won't hold a charge.Even if the stator isn't working I don't think I should be loosing 1/10 of a volt a second on a good battery. Also,What is the best battery I can buy?I don't care about weight.I just want the bad assest battery that will fit my bike. Thanks

Never ride anywhere but home after a jump-start.

I have been selling Harley batteries for over 3 years.
They are made in the USA and are very good, Loretta has her original.
Almost 4 years old(Dec18) and 27+kmiles.
I've seen them average 4-6 years with good treatment.

NEVER let it go flat, that will cost you a year or two.

Batteries Plus has some good batteries, they were the closest to my house and had one in stock with a decent three year warranty. I bought the basic one but I think there is better one they sell, check their website.

I was having the same issue, battery keep going dead, my fault since it was drained on several occasions ( sitting used at a dealer for a long time, hard freeze a few mornings, left the bike in park mode by accident) so after that I knew the battery was toast.

Dropped off the bike at New Castel HD and they told me it was the VR.They were very helpful and several employees rode Buells. They let me pick up my bike and ordered my parts and I will drop her off on Wed.They will also replace the rear master cylinder.
