I was looking around for new gel grips, I really liked the ones on American Sportbike's site for 9.99. I go to checkout and it says your order doesnt meet our minimum.... of 20$ absolute BS! Anyone know where I can order these at or have any good sites?

I don't see how that's BS...the kind of service this community has gotten from Al over the years is unbelievable. And many sites / businesses have minimum order amounts.

+1 - buy more stuff. Get a second (spare) set of those grips you love so much. For $10? Send your order in and say 'thank you'.

Could be worse.

He could use a $100 minimum.

$20 is nothing.

Put together a wish list on the American Sport Bike site and make sure you order enough each time to cover the minimum.

Surely you can buy another filter for your bike right?

I dont think the 20$ min is that bad
My only gripe is the 'we cant ship to a PO box the first time your order' thing.

Yeah, 10 bucks, you can easily buy something you need thats ten or just over.

Given what it costs vendors to process credit cards the $20 minimum is very reasonable and good business.

I sometimes order tiny things like nylon washers and always toss in a spare set of plugs, filters or whatever.

That's one wise way to deal with it.

The CC companies charge them a minimum per purchase up to a certain amount and then a hefty percentage. I suspect a $20 order is purely a break even deal, Al makes zero on that.

Buy a filter.

Al is a really good sponsor here with lots of friends/customers so i don't think you'll get much support for your cause.

I also agree with the guys above that a $20 minimum is no hardship.

I have a slightly different concern w.r.t. the shipping costs to the UK. I want a set of higher bars for my R but I'm not prepared to spend $110 on shipping. $40 is a more realistic figure so I'm going to wait until I really want a bunch of stuff and get it all sent in one go to save on shipping.

Al is a really good guy and very helpful...

Do you have American Sport Bikes quick release pins for the seat? Everyone agrees the pins are a must have.

Jules, the shipping calculator on their site is inaccurate, give them a buzz if you want a realistic quote.

I guess I was a bit bummed because at the time being all I wanted was the grips. However I guess when I buy things I buy large items so that could explain why I have never encountered this. I guess the seat pins could be a great idea, and no I do not have these. Maybe I will buy those and the grips. Thanks for the suggestions. What does those that have the seat pins think?

I think they're awesome... Seat removal/refitting in seconds instead of digging about for a allen key and the chance of a broken captured nut...

As far as the seat pins, I made a pair for Loretta and they are great.

I have a few 4' sticks of 1/2" titanium, so I played with my bench lathe.
Real PITA to machine but they are purty.

I don't use a clip tho, just set the seat on the pins.
Seems solid enough, haven't felt any shifting while riding.
I really like being able to pop the seat off easily.

Give Al and Joanne all the business you can, they deserve it!

While I may understand the frustration, 10$ is so small I hardly feel it to be an encumbrance. As someone else said, grab a oil filter, something you will need to have anyways. If the min was 100$ or something I would be singing a different tune, but 10$, come one ts really not bad at all Some places charge you extra to essentially bring you to the minimum.. They may call it a handling fee but they are basically scraping you because of the costs associated with getting the part to you. I am just thankful there is someone out there I can buy parts from!

The seat pins are awesome, I got a few extra pairs, I've been meaning to install them on the flyscreen of my CR for easy access, possibly the airbox too.

Seat pins make a ton of sense, just for the security of not worrying about boogying up the threads on repeated use

+1 -order more.

Great site and vendor for us buell'igans.

Call and chat with them some time - great folks and always nice to talk with.

seat pins are nice - not indispensable but handy. I like Zac's idea, but no "extra" Ti laying around or lathe handy... : p

Have the seat pins on my CR. They've been very handy the whenever I've needed to work on the bike.

American Sport Bike Rocks!
Lots of people here sing praises for sponsors just because they are sponsors. I sing praises for Al because he is just that awesome.
He once called me up, about a part I ordered for my S2, to let me know that it wouldn't work for my bike. He lost the sale of that one part but he got a customer for life! They actually care about customers and go the extra mile. I always look for parts there first.

I have the seat pins for my R and yes, they are well worth the paltry sum they cost. And FWIW, if you have a problem with American Sport Bike's policies, this is not the place to bitch about it. A&J are good people in my book and the policies are neither unusual nor unfair.

I just stopped by there earlier today and bought a new belt. out of ALL the dealerships in a 60 mile radius of Camp Pendleton and NONE of them have belts, but Al did, and now my bike is back on the road happy as ever, not to mention the shiniest part of the bike is the BELT now.

every business occurs a cost for handling paperwork to do the business transaction. They can either raise the price they sell the product for or raise the minimun order requirements for placing orders. I prefer the latter choice! $20.00 is nothing considering the product is stocked and the good service you receive in getting it. Remember that Buell is now officially out-of-business and we have to rely on sources like Al to get replacement parts in a timely manner.
