Well last night my best friend called me over for a meet and greet with his new bike. Ducatti 848 EVO. Very gorgeous machine. Anyhow the thing has an undertail exhaust and as we were riding I started thinking how sexy the 1125 would look with an undertail...anyone ever done this? Have pics? Know if it can be done? Post pics if ya got them.

Anything can be done, even though I wouldn't.

It's been done and it wasn't pretty. Also have seen one with cans on both sides similar to an SV1000, again, it just didn't look right.

I've thought about doing it, but the wide swingarm on the 1125 just simply doesn't work well with it.

I think it'd look cool exiting under the passenger seat, but my butt gets hot enough on this bike as it is

My Triumph Sprint ST had undertail

- the seat gets a *little* warmer (not tons w/good shielding)

- your jacket reeks, you get a lot of exhaust smell in your clothing

- old school, been tried, the underbike exhaust is the current trend

getting the pipes up past the wide swingarm is the problem as d adams says, look how narrow a ducati is at that point,
i personally don't really like the exhaust on the 1190rs but theres reasons for doing it, i think buells have underslung exhausts and thats it, thats the space i have in which to work, look at the new ducati 1199 underslung exhaust, although it may not end up like that

I had to rub my eyes vigorously. Maybe I need more coffee, but the lines of the bodywork on that Duc look a lot like the 1125r. eek

All the full fairing bikes look pretty much alike to my eyes. Back in the old days the silhouettes from bike to bike were distinctive. Norton to Triumph to Ducati to BMW to Vincent, you could tell instantly.

Just sayin...not a fan of plastic coating.

thats becuase that is a photochopped daytona with some tid bits on there, becuase ducati is using a completely different rear suspension and fairing, however the exhaust is under the bike just doesnt look like that one.

the 999r was the one of the last ones with a full swingarm. A full undertail exhaust if done right would cost a crap ton of money, by then you could of had a full ebr system.

That new duc looks quite mean.

Regarding the question. We have an underseat setup for the 1190RR made because we need to race with an extra low noiselevel at Assen GP track.

The XB Termignoni we use is far away from being stylish, but it cost us no power and thats why it is there. For sure a setup with an Duc or BMW exhaustcan is possible and would please the eyes more. (-:

In 2010 we were going around the swingarm what worked not so well. The 2011, "through swingarm" setup worked very good.

Click on the pic in the racereports to get some high resolution pics.

Most guys are NOT going to go that far just to get an undertail exhaust.

you knwo what would be even cooler? if we made the airbox cover a gas tank! maybe put normal brakes on the front wheel. then we can put yama-zuki-onda-cati stickers on the new tank.

I'd rather see this in practices than an under tail.

I second that, a muffler IN the swingarm, awesome idea, just dont know how the axle/bearings would handle all that heat.

But that is an awesome idea

" just dont know how the axle/bearings would handle all that heat. "

Im curious how much heat there would be back there. The way the 1125 header pipes are laid out, there is quite a bit of piping before it'd reach the swingarm, maybe enough to cool it down a great amount before it got back there?
I guess the test would be to see how hot the muffler gets after a ride, I've never checked. Im sure its hot, but hot enough to toast bearings? I dont know.

And maybe thats A reason (not THE, but one of) they didnt follow through with the idea.

Good point Junior.

Yeah, looks to be a lightning tail, which in my opinion - if they were going to reuse XB parts on the 1125 like they did, they shouldve used the lightning tail on the CR, just looks so good.

I like the exhaust on that, but dont like how they did it (this is just personal opinion). I just dont care for the two 90* angles at the seat for the left pipe, I think it looks bad.
But like those mufflers on the bike

I also like the canisters but there has to be a better way to run the pipe. Plus, I think it would look much better if the cans were closer together. Just mi opinion though.

So they have a header and exhaust. Then they added another header and exhaust to it? To each there own, The thing that I liked about the buells was not having the pipes so overwhelming

Kinda makes you wonder how close the swingarm will get to it and possibly either dent or crush the pipe when it gets fully compressed.

Pretty looking for a show piece but I doubt you could get away with the crossover with the stock tail section. That one isn't something I would try myself and it's cleaner looking than what I can do.

The original 1125R dogbone exhaust solution is very well constructed and regarding packaging not to top. The problem is that with conventional tubes / canisters, welded or rivet, it is not possible to realize a underengine solution what follow the needs of roadclearance, performance and silence.

If you like to go around, the 1125 swingarm volume dictates that you need to go up with 2 small tubes, like the Erik Buell Racing 1190 RS, if you like to give the riders right foot enough clearance.

Customizing solutions were roadclearance and/or performance donīt count or extreme loud setupīs like the 1190RR racecan of course donīt have problems.

A Brittenstyle Boombox might be the way to go.
