Hey y'all, so after killing my original battery a few times, I need a replacement. Found out the hard way that it didn't take a charge (it read 5.6V). Replacement Wal-Mart battery didn't work - polarity is reversed - I should have picked up on that before I charged it overnight and installed it on the bike.

So the local H-D dealer has the battery (P/N 65958-04) in stock. ~$120.00 - UGH! But... if it works, that's all I want.

My question: has anyone bought a replacement battery from the dealer? Does it come charged? I suppose I could ask them to run a voltage check on the battery before I leave the store, so I know I can pop it right in the bike and fire her up. God how I've missed her since I've been on vacation for 3 weeks.

They are charged, but they have been sitting on the shelf since god knows when, so your best bet is to throw it on a tender or charger so that you know its good and not ruin another battery.

The batteries I sell are sitting on a wood bench, hooked up to a 10-way octopus Tender.
All topped off and ready to ride.

No idea how other dealers do it...

Batteries are NOT "charged" from the factory....if they seem to be, it's because someone like Zack takes the time to trickle them up before selling them.

Taking a brand new battery out of the box and installing it without a proper trickle charge before use will damage the battery. period. How long it will last and how well it will perform is a matter chance if you don't charge it properly before putting it to use.

A good dealer will always have the batteries charged before selling them.
