Just a question that has been banging around in my head (yes it's starting to hurt) that's why I'm asking : D it seems to me (I could be wrong happens sometimes) but the people here that keep having stator or v/r issues are mostly driving in traffic and lugging around in at low rpm's. Do you live in states that do not allow motorcycles to split lanes? I live in Cali. and we can split lanes and other than the original stator going out a couple of months after sitting for 8 months while I was in Iraq. I have not had any problems with mine at all. The only time my battery light comes on is when I turn the key on and not start it within say 10 min or so.

Just ride it some more... I had a 2009R
had recall done, stater shortly after and
relay issues. No traffic riding (no lugging). My advise is keep a relay or two
on hand it just a matter of time before battery light comes on.

Most of my riding consists of mountain roads, a lot of hills and tight bends.

I don't see much traffic, try to avoid red lights and city riding as much as possible (i hate sitting still). My stator crapped out at a little over 6,000 miles w/ the harness upgrade @ about 2,000 miles. FWIW

If it makes you feel any better mine is still under warranty.

I'm doing the stator thing myself, feel much better doing the wrenching than leaving it up to the dealership.

My v/r died at 800 miles. RPMs or traffic has nothing to do with it.

I think California is the only state where it's not against the law to lane split.

I still do it anyway, and I live in IL. So far I haven't gotten a ticket for it, but I did have one cop pull up next to me and say "I should write you a ticket for going around that car back there".

I'm also in So. Cal.
Drive 88+ miles a day to and from work.

Going into work, it's mostly 70+mph lately (5:30am).
Coming home it's all lane splitting. But I'm not one of those that drives 65mph between cars going 10mph...!

I'm on my second stator, 21,3xx miles so far.
