Owing to an inheritance, I'm in the market for a new bike, it either means waiting for the 1190 to reach the market, or blowing my wad on a Duc 1198. Does anyone know if the 1190 has the same clutch slave arrangement as my 1125? From photos, it looks the same unit.

i honestly think you should contact the source, and not a bunch of speculators.
if you are serious about buying i'd think that he will be more than happy to personally tell you all about the bike.
e-mail them at sales@ebracing.com

in my correspondences; the responses have came immediately, even after normal business hours.

Some sound advice there fellas, thanks. Yep it was from my maiden aunt, who I looked after in her latter years when she got ill. The reading of the Will came as a complete surprise to me, she'll be sorely missed by myself and my daughters since she was like a surrogate mother to us before dementia set in.

Sorry for your loss, brother.

FWIW, you would be buying a beautiful, capable bike either way.

But only one represents a piece of history, an amazing part of the story of the Great American Sportbike.

Sigh, decisions, decisions!

Best of luck.

It is fundamentally the same design, but materials, fits and finishes have been changed. Nothing fundamentally wrong with the design, just details in execution.

If I had the money to put my name on the list for an 1190--I would have already done it!! No need to look at anything else.

Sorry for your loss Crowley.

Right Nill. I saw the 1125 as being competitive with a GSXR-750 but if I was going to shell out $40k on an exotic I would look to Bimota, MV or Ducati first. Not that they make the most reliable bikes on the planet but they have been in development for a long time and those bikes are dead sexy. The 1190 is a big improvement in style over the 1125, but it ain't no F4 or 1198R or DB8. God knows what the all carbon next gen Ducati superbike is gonna look like, but I would be holding out.

If you can keep the money from burning a hole in your pocket, wait. Think of the wait as your time for analysis. A little analysis time spent up front can save all kinds of frustration, time, and money later.

This is just as true in life as it is in business.

>>>>>but if I was going to shell out $40k on an exotic I would look to Bimota, MV or Ducati first.

If you were going to shell out $40,000 . . . you'd have made a 50% down payment on a similar Ducati. A pal at work has that Desmoducci thing . . i think they are about $77.000. Very pretty but about twice the price of the 1190RS and with essentially no support.

I agree about the MV Agusta. Four friends have them (3 Series Oro from the first release and a later Neiman-Marcus) . . they are indeed dead sexy. The good news here is that the price (along with lots of the components) dropped from about $60,000 (2 of them paid ridiculous premiums just to get the first couple) into the range of simply expensive motorcycles. Again, parts and support can be a crap shoot.

I'd agree, also, with sitting on the money for now. I got the "green light" at home to make the leap for a fun German sports car . . I was already to go when I got my 401K statement from the union the first week of April. Frankly, with invested money up 27% . . I'm investing not spending,

The only other exotica I've considered is a Vyrus, despite the temptation of a MV. In fact, an F4 is the only other bike that's comprehensively spanked me on a twisty road that I knew like the back of my hand when I was out on my 1125. The owner later told me that it did have a blueprinted motor though. He was undoubtedly a better rider than me, but his mate on a Blade was left in the dust. I've been contemplating the new bike for a long time now and was almost tempted to dip into my retirement fund. Not needed now, and no more years on 'Maggies Farm' are added to my plans

I wonder if the 1190 clutch internals are retro fitable to the 1125?

adam, much as i like buells, if i could afford a new bike, first on my list would be an rc8r, if i had more money i'd be looking at a bayliss rep 1198 or an mv, meanwhile i'll just keep the xb and 1125, oh and i just bought a zx7r for Ģ800 so i don't have to throw the buell down the track

RC8R's just started appearing in local dealers in Ohio for the first time ever. The dealer down the street has two. Ready to sell the 1125 to get one. Sexier than the 1190 at 2/5ths the price.

My opinion is far different. The 1190RS looks fabulous to me and to everyone I've talked to who has seen one. The RC8 is not sexier (in fact looks stupid with that folded origami bodywork), is not even remotely as exotic, as well as being much heavier and lower in performance. Heck, if I wanted a cheaper bike than an 1190RS, I'd buy something that's a lot better than the KTM, and cheaper, like the BMW, or a GSXR or the ZX-10. If the 1190RS runs anything like the 1190RR, it will crush the RC8 on the track.

Personally, I love the 1190's looks and from what I have read, the performance is phenomenal. I can't dog the RC8 though because I really like the looks but on the same hand, they have had some pretty severe issues and their max hp and torque are limited but the performance is supposed to e pretty good. If I had the money,I would put it towards the 1190RS. It is an Erik Buell Racing after all....

I haven't ridden the updated RC8, but the 2009 wasn't even close in performance or the appearance of quality. The Buell Barracuda 2 was going to hand the RC8 its walking papers, and the 1190RS is in an entirely different league. You might ask Jens: How does the 1190RR run compared to factory RC8s?

While I love the looks of the MV Agusta ....... I couldn't handle walking into the garage and looking at the KTM.

I'm trying to figure ....... Unless their goal was radar evasion ..... What the purpose of the shape was? I can't imagine......just on intuition.....that it's very efficient aerodynamically. Willing to be set straight.

Steve,

as known, we picked our rider Harald Kitsch after he wun the 2009 Sound of Thunder championship on the RC 8 for KTM. The Erik Buell Racing 1190 is in drivebility, reliability and usable power far in front of the RC 8. The RC8 is in many ways a bad constructed bike with low mecanical grip, unclear targeting and huge wheelieproblems what results in bad laptimes. Even now with the new heavier crank this bike is only quick to ride with Dottore Magneti Marelli. What means in clear words, the KTM need electronical riderassistance systems to cure failures resulting out of a bad construction. The Erik Buell Racing 1190 is in all ways the better bike, even on the brake.

Asthetics, I'm sure. Like you, I can't imagine there was an engineering advantage to the shape.

Personally, I think the KTM in race trim is a pretty neat looking bike. The way the sharp angles complement the trellis frame I find visually appealing.

I do think they hired a Cadillac CTS engineer to help design the body work : )

They are a totally impractical bike in so many ways.

That rear tire is such an unusual size only one manufacturer makes rubber for it, and it's really a "sport/street" compound, not a race tire, so even for racing the bike is totally impractical without a switch to a different rear wheel.

Parts are expensive and hard to come by, and there's not much after market support for the bike at all, making it challenging to get the bike personalized and comfortable for the racer. Really, the 1198 bikes are better in every way, even for the club-level racer with a thick wallet.

I've seen a couple of these Desmo bikes at track days. They look and oh-my-gosh *sound* like nothing else out there. But, really, they are just garage art, and are beyond impractical, even for impractical uses.

Theres a guy with a Desmo down the street from me. He leaves it on display @ Razee Motorcycle Center during the winter. It has a price list for the parts hanging off the display stand. The crank alone is $10k. Front fender $3k. I could go on, but whats the point. I love my 1125R, and the fact I ride a bike that only a handful of other people own is pretty cool. Normal wear parts now available from Drag Specialties. I'd throw my hat in the ring for a 1190 in a heartbeat if I had that kind of $$$.

Crowley - sorry for your loss, with regard to your purchase of an 1190R I suppose it would need SVA approval for road use in the UK, shouldn't be too much of a hassle though.

I went through a similar process with a Ducati special I built in the eighties but it was a lot easier then.

As regards looking at the 1198 SP I have been looking at this in comparison to the BMW Superbike, I haven't got enough cash to look at the 1190R which is a pity.

Good luck with your choice, I had a test ride on an RC8 prior to the R version, not impressed and preferred my 1125R

I knew I needed to put "IMO" in my post. I still prefer the looks of the KTM,

Comparing the 1190 to a Desmosedici is apples and oranges. The Duc is a seriously dumbed down MotoGP bike, the 1190 is not. I never mentioned the Desmosedici anyway. My specific examples were actual 1190 contemporaries, the 1198R, F4, and the DB8, all of which are exotic and inthe same price range or cheaper than the 1190.

To me the RC8 looks like the Aztek designers did it, not the Cadillac designers. YMMV. BTW, the E*B*R 1190RS is the same price as a 1098R was 3 years ago, without mag wheels, and they sold 1500 of them in one year. Ducati also sold 1500 of the V fours. It's OK not to buy an 1190RS if you can't afford one, but the value is there, and I think it is gorgeous. Saving my money for one, and I know I won't regret it!

I also love the look of the 1190RS, the only thing on it I would of done different is the headlights, I prefer the look of dual horizontal lamps similar to the 1125R and B2

Before the 2011 season and again at the Ducati clubraces at Assen I talked with different Desmosedici owners about joining the returned B.E.A.R.S. All report the same, you use it you break it. You break it, you get no parts. You got the parts, nobody can fix it. This bike have a use/maintenance factor like a fighterplane, 1h fun, 20h maintenance. Itīs a wonderful collectible.
