So, what exactly is the big deal with doing this conversion?
I've read here, that it's a real PITA and that you have to change out all sorts of parts.
Really?
I bought a CR because I wanted the gearing, and planned on bolting an R fairing to it, until I started reading of all the things guys have been switching.
I have finally acquired enough parts to do the mod, in my opinion, and made the switch this past Saturday.

I was running the high bars, I reinstalled the clubmans, bolted on the fairing bracket, headlights, and fairing.
BOOM, I have an 1125CRR now.
Everything bolted right up, no problem, and all electrical connectors plugged together just as easy.
I'm waiting for my windshield now, and still searching for a reasonably priced pair of used mirrors.

So, my question is: Why are people changing out the top triple clamp, ignition, and other stuff?

well, u did 1/4 of the conversion, so you have changed 1/4 of the parts, if want a full R u need clip ons, new triples, new ignition, new swingarm, belt.. etc but if u are happy with a cr and fairing, then by all means.

i should have bout a CR for the insurance break. could have saved me hundereds each year.
instead i bought an R and put the CR final drive on it.
$800 and an afternoon is all i needed. these bikes are easy to work on IMHO

So, what exactly is the big deal with doing this conversion?

Most of the people that did the conversion did the whole conversion not just the parts you did.... but as you've surmised that's a personal choice thing really..

The top tree change is to move the ignition switch back to the R position rather than having it sticking out to the side like it does on the CR which looks untidy.

You also need the R tree if you were planning on fitting stock R bars, but as you say the clubmans are a viable alternative (just a little lower) and not as "neat" (IMHO).

Did you leave the IC connected to the tree or move that to the R position?

I'm cheap, didn't want to spend a whole lot, and just wanted the R fairing.
I left the ignition, and the IC where they were. I agree, the ignition is in an awkward position, I would prefer it on the left side like the XB's.
I wish I could have left my high bars on, but didn't want to modify the fairing bracket location, and I think it would ruin the look of the bike if the fairing was raised.
I may fabricate a few sets of risers, and experiment with raising the clubmans some.
I will post pics when it is done, I'm still waiting on the windscreen, and some mirrors.

And as for only making 3000 CR's. It is STILL a CR, and can be easily put back to stock in about an hour. : )

I really like the seating position with the high bars. I've been considering adding an r fairing to my cr and have wondered if the high bars would fit. From what you say, I guess not. I wonder if you could enlarge the side openings on the fairing. Is there any way to make the high bars and the r fairing work together?

Good question! Though you already answer the one I did have about just switching out the fairings with the cafe bars - I could swap it out for doing some 600+ mile freeway stints one way, then swap it back - is an entertaining thought. Can the CR fairing go over to the R as easily? New possibilities - keeping the extra R fairing around for those long trips - how many bolts and plugs? -

I thought the high bars fitted with the R fairing (I've seen it done before). I know there's an issue on full lock with hands touching the mirrors but I'm still pretty sure it's do-able.

If not then try a set of "low risr" or "drag" bars instead. I have a modified R top tripple with risers and drag bars and that (just) clears everything...

I don't think you're cheap - more "practical" than cheap LOL

OK, got the windscreen, still waiting on the mirrors. Here's what it looks like:

I think I will try to fabricate a bracket that will allow me to mount the highbars back on.
This position gets pretty hard on my old back, and wimpy wrists... ; )

thats great. For me I think the cr is a better choice, but I really like the looks of the r better.

No, the clubmans work fine, no problems with the R fairing.

Are the same bolts used to mount up the R fairing as the CR? The lights just plug in?

I would love some more info on this as well as a parts list and more pictures if you wouldn't mind.

I love my CR but sometimes I would like to go on a long ride with a windscreen.

EZ, not the same bolts, there were only 4 bolts holding the CR lights and windscreen on.
I had to scrounge all the hardware at work. Which wasn't too hard since we have tons of Stainless nuts and bolts. ; )
If I have the time, I will try to do a count of what I used, but I've been pretty busy, upgrading the suspension on my DR, and tying up loose ends on the CRR mods.
Not to mention preparing for the SpringFast ride in eastern Arizona.
HWY191, woohoo!!!

- cool - sounds like fun!
Its just me and mods - can't leave stuff alone - trying hard, must resist! - lol - its a habit for me to ask such a question, but if its truly just a matter of nuts and bolts, re-plugging in some connectors - then I had to ask! - lol

OK, after putting about 100 miles on the bike, I have concluded that the high bars have to go back on. : )
I will have to raise the faring brackets about an inch and a half.
I will post pictures after it's done...
I guess when that's done I can call it an 1125CRRT? ; )

Looks good Bart, Can't wait to check it out this weekend! I had considered doing the same for our long trips as my neck gets pretty wore out from the wind at the high speeds we run! The lamnar lip helps a little but not too much!

I've seen Firebolt, Lightning, and Uly setups on the 1125. It is very doable.

So the final changes have been made, and I am very happy with the outcome.
I have installed the CR highbars. Had to raise the fairing bracket about 3/8" to accomodate the bars.
Very comfortable on a 800 mile weekend.
I'm in Love all over again. ; )

Sorry no close ups, this was during the ride this past weekend.
