Important for anyone (in the US) considering the TM velocity stacks:

When I ordered my Torque Hammer exhaust last year the guys at TM re-flashed my tune over the internet. I was (and am) pleased and satisfied with the results, and looked forward to trying the stacks next.

I ordered and received the stacks this year, and asked before ordering if they thought a new tune would be needed to run the stacks/TH combination. They said yes.

Stacks arrived, and this week I installed them and contacted TM about getting the new tune: the online description of the stack says that the new fuel map is included in the price.

Now I'm informed that they are not doing the internet flashing process anymore. I'm supposed to mail my ECM to them.

Any US customers considering the stacks please be advised: although the guys at TM did not mention it on their website, during my first or second inquiries, when I placed the order, or mention it in the packaging, getting their tune on your bike means mailing your ECM overseas to complete the process, and the price of the stacks themselves and their shipping is not the whole cost of the process.

I don't know what to do now- pull the stacks, sell them and move on, ride them without the tune, take the bike off the road while I mail the ECM overseas, or buy another ECM and mail it. I'll be test riding it today, and maybe it will feel awesome anyway.

I understand that this is really a relatively minor communication error and I'm not trying to convey consumer outrage- just taking a moment to share some information with others that I wish I had sooner.

I'd have to say put them on this winter and send the Ecm to them then.

Thanks for the heads-up. Sorry to hear about your experience. I hope the stacks work out for you. BTW, how much did they cost after shipping? Thanks. --Kevin

I personally can't wait to hear how your test went. I read that one doesn't need the ECM tune, for the stacks to work. Now we will see.

How do you compare when you have no idea about the other half of the equation? Sending the ECM overseas is a deal breaker for alot of people for sure. The idea of mailing it during the winter seems like the most reasonable, but that's 6 months away.

Some of us don't have a winter. I would stop chasing the more power rainbow.

I would stop chasing the more power rainbow.

The vast majority of us (me included) would be well served to learn to harness the power of the stock motor. Unless you are on the drag strip or riding high A-level at the track, this motor has PLENTY of power to hang with any bike. Period.

Or you could buy a spare ECM. Then sell the spare ECM upon the return of the TM update ECN.

No more Fuel Solutions remote tuning? What a shame as that was a nice service. Within a few minutes a bike could be tuned via an internet connection and a cable.

I'm pretty sure the concept of remote tuning is here to stay- and my particular case is a good example: why mail physical things around the world and back for the sake of moving some zeros and ones around in software? I'm sure that if demand allows the guys at TM will find another way to offer the service in the future. It sure was easy plugging a cable into my bike last time.

Looks like the badweb classifieds have provided me with a solution: a used '08 ECM will soon be making its way to me from a helpful badwebber, and I will in turn mail it away across the ocean. I'll be patient, and I'm sure that soon enough the necessary zeros and ones will find their way into my bike and I can go catch those rainbows.

I was looking at that tune on their site but, is it just me or does the cost of that ecm flash translate to like 500 bucks?

Pattio,

When you have our flash installed, and buy new products where you need a flash for, we update the ECM for free.

In your case, If you have a Torque Hammer and our ECM, with a tune, the tune is for free. When you have a very old tune, in a different calibration, you need to send us your ECM, and even then we don''t charge for that. You only need to by u reflash 1 time to get this service.

We have never mentioned on our internet page that the new tune is included in the stacks purchase, so where did you get this information from.

We do say that if you have bought 1 of our products like a tune, the update is for free when you buy a new exhaust or another product.

We still programm over the internet, where did you find this information we don't.

People send us there ECM, when they are not able to do a reflash at a dealer, or they cannot program online.

What you should do is send me a mail dris@twinmotorcycles.nl. I look up your data in our system, and when i find a purchased producted or invoice in your name in my system, we update online for free.

I hope this clears up the information for other customers, you need to mail me first and NOT spreading information about our company that is not correct (-:

Thanks.

A great rule for all such cases, no matter the company involved. Sounds like a misunderstanding.

Onderwerp: stacks to work with my TH 1125

Hello-

I'm having a great time with my 1125r, which has your TH and tune. I
really like my TH exhaust, and with the tune it runs great (of
course). I'm interested in the stacks. Will I need a new tune to
run the stacks? (and if yes, what is the cost of that?)

Thanks,
Patrick

I hope these emails explain why I thought what I was thinking. I hope that this will show I did not intend to 'spread misinformation' about a company I like and product I intend to own. Maybe the misunderstanding is that you are not using the same guy anymore, but you have a different guy that could help me.
I think on careful reading that it was me who convinced myself that the tune would not cost extra. This appears to be a mistake on my part, although I think I technically fit the description of 'already have a tune', I understand that it is up to you guys to make that call.
I was prepared to pay postage to send my new/used extra ECM, and I think it would be great if I did not have to do that. At the moment, I think the big question is: is my cost to add the stacks to my bike $120 or $300?

Pattio, it does makes sense to have two ECM's that is what I am going to do myself. But my question still is, did you ride your bike and find/well anything with having the stacks on but no flash??

Pattio,

I have a reply from Martin what the problem was in your case. Sorry for late reply, You have a 2008 ECM, with a old flash. We only program 2009 ECM, with a 2009 flash (yes also for the 2008 model) In your case, you need to go to a official dealer, reflash the ECM to a 2009 same model, and then we update the ECM for free. that's it. If you can't go to a dealer or your dealer does not understand you, you need to send us the ECM, and we send you reprogrammed the ECM back, all free of charge. You then also have the latest stator software inside..

Not to highjack the thread, but what new stator software?

I never had the new harness installed, and didn't get the new flash. Have stayed with the old performance tune.

I was under the impression that the stator upgrade was a purely mechanical change, i.e. the new harness.

I believe the factory Charging System Upgrade for '09 1125s includes a relay and wire harness plugin which goes to the stator & ECM. The wire to the ECM controls the operation of the relay which enables/disables one of the three phases from the stator on demand per the upgrade's included software algorithm ECM reflash.

If you have an '09 and have not had this upgrade, it's a matter of time until your stator burns itself out unless you've made other arrangements for its longevity.

When they do the harness upgrade they also flash the ecu to the latest s/w to control the on/off of the stator control relay.

So far in reading the threads the harness"upgrade" doesn't appear to be helping. So I am going to stay with what I have, as warranty is out next month.

If it turns into an issue then I will go with custom rewind.
