Or no...what?

The 1125 is a "Rotax". Built in Austria. Not a Harley engine.

The XB (XB9S and R, XB12 S and R and such) bikes are Harley powered.

I'm always one to explain to the curious that there is not one Harley part on the 1125's. True?

Huck, Do you mean they are all "Harley" parts, maybe just not made by HD? Because if I could get them elsewhere I'd do it.

Define 'Harley part'.

The OEM battery is the same as that on a Sportster, I believe.

I think the ECMs are the same part with different programming, obviously. (might be wrong on this one, though...)

I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could find this or that small knick-nack that's used somewhere on some Harley.

I think "in spirit" your comment is correct, even if there are a handful of small exceptions.

They share the same valve shims as the V-Rod motors, so you can't say they aren't 100% Harley free. : )

But yes, its not a Harley motor.

All 08+ XB and 1125's use the same ECM, which is not shared with anything that has a Harley badge on the tank.

The XB9R and XB12R are Buell engines built by Buell.

The XB9 is strictly Buell and does not share anything with HD's. The XB12 shares components with the Sportster 1200 but not too many. Both engines were built by Buell to their spec.

The 1125 Helicon engine is built by Rotax of Austria.

None of these engines has any H-D in them. If they did, they would have 40 hp less!

Why are some XB Buell owners in denial about their bikes being powered by Sportster based engines, as an example the heads on 1200 Sportsters are internally the same as XB12s and have been since 2004, Buell used the Sportster engine as a base for their bikes but some owners can not accept the fact. The extra power from the Buells is largely from improved intake and exhaust, far more than changes to the engine internals. The Sportster engine is in fact a very versatile design, originally made in the 1950's and a updated version still being used in the next century in the XBs, a sport machine. I call that impressive.

I would not have bought my 1125 if it was H/D.. I am DONE with h/d after 2 bikes that shelled with fairly low miles H/D motors can kiss my ass. XB motors are a huge improvement. But still defecient because of the H/D hold on Buell's designs..1125 like the Vrod motor are in a class of their own. It is a good class. The ONLY h/d bike i would buy EVER buy again would be a vrod.

dtek - no, I didnt miss that at all, in fact just stated it yesterday in another thread.
Just because Porsche built it doesnt mean it has all completely parts from Harleys inventory.
You have to understand that certain things are massed produced and bought by many different vendors, so its not like ONLY Porsche has those shims

I have a few KTM owners coming in to buy V-Rod shims.
Seems Harley charges half of what KTM wants for the same damn thing.

I hate to think what a KTM stator costs...

BTW, the cylinders on my 09 Uly have a bar&shield on them at the bottom. :-P
