Speak for yourself. I love good pickled okra... hell, I love okra in general.

Either sauteed with sea salt, as part of a great gumbo, or just raw from the garden... yum.

College is a fine institution and a great thing for bettering ones education. The thing I think people do well idiot parents is worry about lil Johnny's college experience.
I am no scholar never saw the inside of a college till number 1 son went. My son has his mothers smarts and scored in the top 10% of his high school class. At that time N.J. gave what was called NJ STARS basically County college for free as long as you keep better than a certain grade point average. My son wanted to go to a proper college though not a pidly CC well the wife and I says SHYT to that young man your going to CC and so he went, for free. He finished with a good enough GPA to receive NJ Stars II a state school for free same deal he was able to carry this through till his last semester we once again filled out fafsa form and he got just enough scholarships from elsewhere to pay for his last semester. Total cast of his college EDUCATION to him 0$.
His friend Chris opted for the EXPERIENCE of a private school.

So I am having a conversation with number 1 son on the way home from work he called to say high from his apartment in Yonkers I am proud of the boy did I mention that.
He says to me what every parent longs to here hey dad know what I was talking to my friend Chris the other night I graduated high school with. He has to start paying his student loans this year $800.00 a month for 30 years.. Thanks Mom and Dad I am so glad I can start my adult life with no debt...

Moral of the story Education is what you should seek not experience!!!!
That being said if I would have listned to the seminar people I sat with in his senior year he would be screwed too.
They kept alluding to our family contribution for the year. What exactly is a family contribution I says. Ummm it's a combination of scholarships loans and work programs they says. Hmmm I says he is white middle class how much actual scholarships would he recieve. Uh well Uhh it Uhh depends on UHH income hhmmm I says NO THANK YOU.

Steve, those pickled okra are made deep in the heart of Texas.
Can't remember exactly where, but those are my favorite snack.

You CAN'T make gumbo without okra and gumbo is a staple in East Texas/Louisiana.
Well, that and Red Beans & Rice.

mmmmmm Yummy!

It is funny. Just read every post where people complain about someone else willing to do their job for less, with that redneck accent in it (and a mullet, of course). Then group them all together, and put them on the pile (watch the whole episode....).

We're entitled to not be competitive, gosh darn it. Don't they understand?

They took 'er jobs!

Continuing our egregious example of thread-hijacking....

Zac- I'm good with the gumbo, but the idea of pickled rabbit food straight from the jar just doesn't get my motor running.

And perhaps (just a theory), the fact that stuff like this is a southern "delicacy" is one of the reasons the North won the war...

; )

Or, perhaps it explains why Texas picked up more seats than any other state in the last census.

It's just a damn fine place to live.

maybe if you leave the okra in the sun... let it get good and dry (petrified even), then whittle on it a bit... and voila! You'll have yourself a set of downhome edible Texas levers!

(see how I craftily circled back to the original thread posting?! HA!)

I've had mine on for a few months so far. Although I don't like the full out adjustment on the brake lever (it doesn't go far enough away from the bar) they have held up flawlessly...even seen two TDs...no problems. I'll see how they hold up during this TD season.

Agreed - Chili w/beans (or Tomatoes) makes the Baby Jeebus cry.

However gumbo filé is pretty damn great.

Thanks Drawkward! I was worried about getting the knock-offs, but it sounds like they hold up well. Can't wait to get them in the mail.

According to the listing, it takes close to a month for them to show up, but I'm sure it's well worth the wait.

From Bloomberg - "Urban Chinese average yearly wages surged to 32,244 yuan in 2009 from 8,319 yuan in 1999."

32,244 * $.15 = $4,894.64.

"get smarter, get a better education, innovate so we can be more competitive..." in a $5,000 a year labor market?

There are 4 times as many Chinese, in nominal numbers, but our GNP is something like 3 times theirs.

But . . that balance is shifting rapidly. Their wages, even at what look to be laughably low numbers measured by our yardstick, are rising rapidly.

The other thing that seems to have changed is that they are showing signs of changing from the 7 day work week. A couple years ago the Chinese got a taste of capitalism when they had a holiday. They found that folks, on that day they didn't work, went and bought things and it rippled through the economy. Their first little taste.

They are also beginning to make some really top quality products.

Difficulties would be widely varying quality and little means of knowing good from bad. . . safe from not safe and their total lack of adherence to intellectual property rights.

These folks . . . well, they'd steal .pdf service manuals off the internet and use them.
